Meet Amanda Cook | Private Yoga Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Mindful Mountain Movement was created because times are weird and our practice helps. I have studied various schools of yoga, meditation and leadership development for 15 years. I have learned that our “practice” encompasses everything. Yoga is how we breathe, how we move, how we show up in the world. And sometimes, yoga means touching your toes. Yoga is how you do everything. Mindful Mountain Movement is a collective offering of mindfulness and yogic practices that are relevant to exactly where you are right now- mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Are you showing up in your life with your whole self? How do you tap into your primitive, innate, mind blowing potential and use it to execute everything you want in life? As a teacher, I thrive working one on one with an individual or small group. I pull from vast studies and offer practices that will make the most difference for you. A community and the world are uplifted when more and more people make becoming the best version of themselves a priority. I am simply a guide.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After discovering the power of our focused attention, I crafted the way I move, speak and act to be my art. It is the art of living mindfully. Every ancient teacher is urging us to cultivate awareness around how we cast our attention. A more recent leader, Masaru Emoto, tested this scientifically by studying what happens to water molecules as they receive specific and clear intentions through words and song. I did a similar experiment by speaking to an apple. I sliced the apple in half and put them in separate mason jars and next to each other on the table. I spoke kindness to one jar and hate to the other for two months. The results were profound. I was able to preserve half of the apple with love and utterly destroyed the other half with hate. The more I understand how potent each thought of mine is, the more I can carefully direct it out into the world. It is this kind of mindfulness that leads us to manifest exactly what we want in our lives. I aim to share this concept with others in a relevant and modern way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Steamboat Springs, Colorado is gem on the map! Hitting all the hot spots would look like a morning soaking in the hot springs, a hike up Fish Creek Falls, tubing down the Yampa River, happy hour hopping on Lincoln Ave. My favorite spots to dine include Yampa Valley Kitchen, Sumatera authentic thai, Old Town Pub, Aurum Food & Wine and Taco Cabo. The newest hot spot to hangout is Snowbowl of Steamboat! These guys have expanded to include dog friendly events, outdoor yoga on their new astro turf (hosted by me) and live concerts every week on a killer stage throughout the summer! Living in Steamboat is rarely uneventful, it is like full-time vacation. Don’t come visit, don’t tell your friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A big loud shoutout to the fkng greats! I mean where would we be without those that have gone before us? I am the person I am because I study the advice and wisdom of past leaders. Patanjali, the author of the ancient yoga sutras, explains what yoga is in 4 chapters. That dude Jesus, from the bible, yeah he was also talking about mindfulness practices and innate human power. I sat in front of the Dalai Lama in India in 2013, he spoke about kindness. Kindness! His Holiness is an empire of a human and his complete and total message is kindness. Brilliant. Beyond the wisdom I gain in deciphering comparative scriptures, a solid network of likeminded people, friends and family sustain me. My gratitude runs deep.
