We had the good fortune of connecting with Cedric Lipsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cedric, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being an entrepreneur has always been in my blood. Growing up in the deep and rural south, the social and economic challenges I witnessed reinforced in my mind that the best way for me to make a difference was to strike out on my own and in my own way.
After a few failures and some limited success, I discovered a need in the market for equal access to the high-ticket (read: expensive) services that we all need and/or want but not all of us can easily pay for. The inspiration came to me while in the process of trying to pay for a very expensive dental procedure. While I had a great credit score, I didn’t want the exorbitant interest and perpetual debt that comes with financing.
As a result, in 2018 I started Clusivi with my team to introduce a fintech payment solution that creates a win-win relationship between consumers of high-ticket services and the businesses that provide them. All too often new technologies enter the marketplace that are beneficial to the customer but not the business or vice versa.
My aim is to introduce a new way to pay that although disruptive, is not destructive to the current financial eco-system. For me and my team it is all about “doing well while doing good.” It is this driving mission that propels me through and beyond all of the challenges that come along with building a successful company.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are still very much in the process of figuring things out, and nothing has come easy. However, we are excited to be presenting to the world a new answer to an age-old question, “how will I pay for this?” Especially when it comes to the purchasing of high-ticket services.
(The kind that are expensive and are planned out in advance.)
Many consumers who need or want these services are excluded because they don’t have the cash upfront, don’t qualify for credit or don’t want to burden themselves with high-interest debt.
For the businesses that provide these services, this means missed opportunities to gain customers, clients, and patients and maximize their revenue potential.
We have developed a SaaS platform that connects consumers and businesses in a win-win relationship.
Consumers are empowered with a forward-thinking and financially savvy payment option, while businesses enhance their growth and profitability because they removed price as an obstacle.
We’re creating access and inclusion for all.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
“The best time ever” would begin in downtown Denver, specifically at Union Station because it’s a perfect embodiment of the city’s history and contemporary culture (i.e., fantastic restaurants and bars). Other eateries in the metro area that I would introduce them to are Sushi Rama (for conveyor-belt sushi), and Guadalajara and Machete Taco.
Introducing them to the Colorado outdoors, I’m a big fan of Estes Park as the quintessential mountain town, especially for wildlife viewing. Hiking to Hanging Lake in the Glenwood Springs area is also a must-do.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
