We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Wiegand and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Everything in real estate marketing is backwards. Beautiful listing photos and videos aren’t for buyer’s, they are to be used to get more sellers. Real estate “for sale” signs, they get more sellers too. Marketing to your sphere online with Social media posts seems like it would get sellers, but no, it gets buyers by referral. Nearly everything works exactly opposite to what one would think intuitively.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What makes me and Home Treasure Finders different? Well, for one… I believe that I need to exceed expectations. If someone expects a 10, I always shoot for a 13! This way, They are always impressed and they tell their friends. Simply meeting a customer’s expectations is never enough to grow a business. You always need to exceed their expectations. That is how you get people to sell your services to others… then you don’t need to spend money on marketing. Your prior customers do it for you.
Also, I believe you need to be yourself. Sometimes a customer doesn’t know who you are and how great you are… that’s okay, just move on and find a different customer who understands you and what you have to offer. I’d rather have 3-5 great customers who respect me and appreciate me than 500 people who just think I am run of the mill and average. If you don’t know my worth… I won’t try to convince you. I’ll just find someone else and make them a ton of money. It’s no sweat off my back. If you think I am average, I think you’re average and hit the eject button.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sunday- Red Rocks, yoga or a hike Monday- 16th Street Mall, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
Tuesday- Karma House, Kava Bar
Wednesday- Cottonwood Lake for some water-skiing and Voodoo Donuts afterwards
Thursday- A nice Mountain Drive to Boulder Falls and Nederland for the sunset
Friday- Temple to see a great DJ and dance a little bit
Saturday- Hit Rupert’s Patio for Brunch and a walk around Sloans Lake
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to thank my father for his guidance and start-up loans. He was also an entrepreneur and without his encouragement, I would have never started a brokerage. Additionally, my mother was also an entrepreneur, and she always said when I was growing up, “work, work, work, work!” I still think of that when things get tough… I just work, work, work, work… it’s simple, but it works.
