We had the good fortune of connecting with Satya Wimbish and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Satya, what do you want people to remember about you?
One of my goals is to lead people to remembering who they are. Throughout life, we are often driven to fit into worldly constructs that oppose who we were meant to be all the while slowly and steadily burying pieces of our authentic selves, which results in a loss of quality of life. Personal struggles and challenges contribute to us settling even further in losing touch with who we are, what we love, our purpose and our passion.

My life and work awakens hidden joy, stimulates self-rediscovery, reveals the best version of each of us to ourselves and those around us, thus spreading an abundance of love that resonates throughout the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I started taking my art seriously as a profession and not just a hobby, I was working out of my apartment in Aurora. I was dumpster diving and getting old furniture and stuff to use as my canvas. I chose the name Trash as Art because it was literally me turning trash into art. I’ve since evolved my message in the name to represent the “trashed” places we experience in our lives and creating a beautiful experience out of that.

My website says “I liberate individuals from the spirit of oppression and activate transformation by renewing of the mind.” This is how I operate personally in enriching my life and overcoming obstacles and I share that through art. So while my actual work is not always formerly trash, I typically create from points of pain with the end result being fun pieces that demonstrate perseverance and living a life of joy and abundance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A weeklong trip? We’re going camping! Just kidding… kind of. I love being in the mountains and I’m located in Colorado Springs now. So, a good chunk of the trip would be visiting places like Garden of the Gods, Palmer Park, Red Rocky Canyon, America the Beautiful Park, Gingersnap Rescue Ranch, Cave of the Winds, the Penny Arcade, Palmer Lake, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Larkspur, etc. If the weather were nice, we’d do some kayaking. We can check out art and meet artists at Cottonwood Center for the Arts. I moved during the pandemic, so I have not had a chance to eat out here much. But I can cook just about anything, so we can eat in, or go on an adventure exploring restaurants. One place I know we can grab some decent food and get in some dancing is at COATI Uprise. We’d have to pop in there on a Sunday night. Smoothies are a staple in my home, and there is no option. We are making some! We might take a trip to Denver and go check out the murals in Five Points and see some plays downtown and in Aurora. There’s almost always some type of community event happening so we’ll find one somewhere and go hang out with some of my old buddies.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, there are so many people who have had a hand in helping me get to the point of where I am today. Too many to list! I would have to give immediate thanks for Carolina Estrada Ramos, Sara Blanchette, Nikki Johnson, Meridee Albrecht, Rasoj and Renu Shrestha, Christopher Ford, Phillip Samuel, Lupita Villarreal, Roxy Hernandez, Melissa Altamar, Yudi Padilla-Escobar, Glenda Yessenia, Donald and Raiko Johnson, Tracy Weil, Mike Spinelli, Walt Weinburg, Viviane le Courtois, Susan Gibbons, Carina Bañuelos-Harrison, Corrina Espinosa, Heather Stewart, Junae Bennett, and Roxy Troupe.
