We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyndie Costello and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyndie, what’s your definition for success?
For me, success is making a connection with another being that improves both of our lives. Financial success is something completely different and will flow with the effort you put into growing your business. But to me, true success is more than money in your pocket. True success is the legacy you leave behind by your work ethic and how you can positively affect the flow of someone’s existence.

What should our readers know about your business?

Kinetic Shapes Yoga is more than your traditional flow or hatha yoga. I work to make classes accessible to people who may not have thought yoga was for them, while trying to honor the roots of the tradition. I use easy-to-understand cues, proven scientific meditation, and mindfulness practices– along with gentle, adaptable movements and breathing exercises– to create integrated accessible yoga classes in a space where all bodies, minds, and ages can find calm (self-regulation) and rejuvenation. I work with a lot of different special populations and have been professionally trained and certified to teach Chair, Kids, Dementia, and Mixed Level accessible yoga classes. My classes support adaptability to many diagnoses, abilities,’ and injuries. If you can breathe, you can benefit from a yoga and mindfulness practice! My passion is to help match my clients with the right kind of yoga that speaks to them individually, so they can get the best benefits, and get the best out of life!
To keep moving forward during the pandemic, I coached more traditional yoga classes, but I am finding a connection here too. I find satisfaction in bringing adaptions to people who may not have been able to comfortably complete a pose because they were never given an alternative adaptation in the past. I am hoping to help normalize props and modification of yoga poses in these more traditional settings. I also hope to give representation in traditional spaces as well, so that people in the LGBTQ + community, people with disabilities, visible or not, and older adults can see that they belong in these spaces as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Inventing Room would be one of my first stops, as their fun and scientific take on desserts will make anyone feel like a kid in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory! Then we’d have a fresh, healthy lunch at City ‘O City, then dessert at the Make Believe Bakery– with gluten-free, vegan, and soy-free options, they have everyone covered. Next, we would stop by the Gnarly Toy Box, an 80’s memorabilia toy store in Lakewood for a trip down memory lane. I’d finish the day with a hike around Waneka Lake in Lafayette, then stop for dinner at Ras Kassa, a delicious and unique Ethiopian experience like none other! On Saturday, we would head to Boulder for the Farmers Market and hopefully, if we’re lucky, we’ll also catch an art show (they often have both). A cup of tea and some tasty treats at Boulder’s Danube Tea House would wrap up the day. Fun fact, the Danube Tea House was donated to the City of Boulder, Colorado by its sister city in India.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I am grateful for my unofficial mentor, Mary Jo Fagundo, owner of Mojo’s House of Yoga and Meditation in Lafayette, Colorado. Mary Jo has supported my career from the very beginning. She was the first yoga studio owner to give me a chance to teach. She has continued to support me throughout the flows of life. Mary Jo, her teachers, and students have all taught me so much over the years. Even more, Mary Jo connects with her clients and contractors in a way that brings lasting success and loyalty– the kind of loyalty that sticks by you through the hard times.
