Meet Sandy Golias | Board-Certified Music Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandy Golias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am passionate about the senior population; specifically those senior adults living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Before the pandemic, I was a hospice music therapist, helping individuals and their families navigate the end of life. After losing my job due to the inability to service senior adults living in nursing and assisted living homes, I decided to create a business that brings group music therapy sessions to the senior population. The loneliness and isolation these individuals and their families have experienced the past 2 years has been monumental. Mountain Music Therapy Services was created to bring joy and quality of life to the elderly.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The services that I offer are unique in that I am able to lift mood, decrease depression and loneliness, increase quality of life and decrease anxiety; all with the healing power of music! I was privileged enough to receive a degree in piano performance as well as music education and for many years, used those skills to teach and lead many young people to pursue their own musical careers. My heart has always been with those who need assistance or help to attain the dignity and respect they deserve. Getting my music therapy degree at the age of 50 was not easy, and passing the board certification exam was even more difficult, but I am so proud of my accomplishments. My life experience helps me every single day as I work my dream job!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My husband and I live in the most beautiful and exciting state! Every weekend finds us exploring a different city/area in Colorado! Our itinerary must include hiking in Garden of the Gods, traveling to Mt Princeton to experience the hot springs, lunch and suppers at some fantastic breweries along the way, and renting a Jeep to travel the old silver trails and towns in Creede!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am forever grateful to my mother for her sacrifice, love and support throughout my musical career.
