We had the good fortune of connecting with Linnell Keeling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Linnell, why did you pursue a creative career?
I wanted to do something that made me happy and fed my soul; photography filled the bill! It allows me to be creative and to meet with so many amazing people. I also get the chance to help clients create memories that can last a lifetime.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been a very creative person. I enjoy everything from pottery, sewing, jewelry making, and my favorite photography! I became passionate about photography professionally in 2018 after taking a class at my local community college. I felt like I had finally found my calling. Then everything changed that summer when I was diagnosed with Stage III Metastatic Breast Cancer. That’s when I put my camera down. It wasn’t until I had the chance to do a boudoir session with Don Hales a few days before my mastectomy, that I was inspired to pick up my camera again. The experience with him made me feel absolutely beautiful for the first time since diagnosis, and that was before I saw the photos.
Once I finished radiation, I decided I wanted my power back. I wanted me back and the best way to do that was to get behind the camera again. Photography allowed me to be creative and see the beauty in life while helping others see how I see them.
While I love photographing weddings, families and pets, my passions are empowering women through boudoir and maternity sessions and photographing newborns through Sweet Me Photography. I absolutely love helping a woman see how beautiful she is and creating the same experience for her that Don created for me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the first things we would do is visit Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park via Trail Ridge Road. The drive and views are absolutely incredible and it is a must see for any Colorado visitor. A visit to Glenwood Hot Springs would definitely be on the docket. I would also want to take them to the National History Museum and the Denver Art Museum. Depending on the time of year, we would go to Anderson Farms in Erie for a summer session in the sunflowers or to Golden Ponds in Longmont, in the fall. Lastly, we would take a walk downtown and catch a bite at one of the restaurants in the Dairy Market.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to recognize and thank my family and friends, especially my mom and Lisa, for supporting me over the years. I also want to thank all of my clients for giving me the opportunity to be their photographer. The last person I want to give a shoutout to is Brett with J Bell Visuals! He has been an awesome mentor and I look forward to continuing to learn from him and the other photographers at the RAW studio in Denver.
