Meet Jared Lark | Photographer & Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Lark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
I think one of the most important lessons, if not THE most important lesson, is it’s not about you. It’s about others. I think getting into photography, I had a natural eye for it and thought I was pretty good for my skill level, granted at that time I only took photos of landscapes, cars and other inanimate objects, however, it wasn’t until I started taking photos of others, and dealing with other people, that I realized, it’s not about me. It’s about capturing this moment for them. It’s using my ability to bless others with that moment forever immortalized in a photograph. It’s also about making connections with other creatives or individuals, that share the same passions as you, that inspire or spur you on to achieve things you couldn’t by yourself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Mostly I just go out and enjoy taking photos in my free time, however I also have been videoing more and more wedding and elopements recently as a little side business. I love it. Meeting new people and being able to capture their special day has been very rewarding. I also worked for a non-profit a couple years ago and filmed on location in Uganda and was able to help raise $70,000+ for a primary school in a local community. Things like that is why I do what I do, it’s just incredible what you can accomplish when you put others first.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say, first and foremost, my dad deserves a huge shoutout for the creative journey I’ve been on. Growing up he taught me and my brother how to draw. Yet, he would also take pictures of us doing anything and going anywhere, which I ABSOLUTELY hated, however I now see the importance of that, and really appreciate that.
I think another individual that I would give a shoutout too, is Todd Caldwell. I didn’t spend too much time with him, but one of the moments that I often think about is when he took me out to go take photos of a storm moving in near Central Florida. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life, and got me hooked on “storm chasing” that gave me some of the best photos I’ve ever taken. He also really got me into astrophotography which is something I REALLY love taking photos of.
