We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya Cash and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanya, how do you think about risk?
Risk, or lack thereof, is such a huge factor in what paths our life will follow. I graduated with a degree in accounting and spent a lot of time afterwards working as a CPA at real estate and consulting companies. It was a low risk path. A good paying career with lots of upward mobility, but not much room for creativity. As I continued down this path it started to feel more risky to stay on the safe path and never take a shot at doing something that I truly loved. I felt a strong need to know what else I could do, and how life could look different for me if only I took a risk! I’ve never been happier and while every path has different kinds of struggles and obstacles to overcome, I think I’ll be eternally happy and proud that I was brave enough to take the risk to experience a more creative lifestyle.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Boho Succulent is located in southeast Denver, in the Virginia Village neighborhood. It is a heavily residential neighborhood and I wanted to create a place where residents could go to pick up a unique gift or find a plant to beautify their homes without having to drive across town to find a locally owned boutique. The area is quickly becoming a hot real estate market and I love being located next door to the local coffee shop. As a resident of the neighborhood, I’ve especially loved being able to meet so many of my neighbors and creating a community, and inviting space for them to gather and shop. In addition to being a boutique plant shop, the store also carries an array of gift items such as barware, soaps, books and journals, candles, and much more! I’m currently looking for additional Colorado-based makers to stock in the boutique, so when you shop at The Boho Succulent you will be supporting multiple local businesses.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver has such an amazing array of fun things to do! A concert at Red Rocks would definitely be on the list. A hike in Golden Gate State Park with beers at Cannonball Creek Brewing Co afterwards. A dinner at my favorite restaurant, Annette, would have to be in the books. Noble Riot has an amazing menu of natural wines, and I love to see live jazz at Nocturne. Meow Wolf would also be a fun adventure to experience with friends. And of course some long dog walks around the neighborhood to check out some funky mid-mod architecture.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My boyfriend deserves a huge shoutout! He says he is my biggest fan, which is absolutely wonderful. But he is also my handyman, social media expert, painter, photographer, and so much more. I’m lucky that he also enjoys plants, so he’s only slightly annoyed with all my plants (and dirt, oops!) scattered everywhere. I probably could have done this without him, but it would have been much more difficult, and a lot less fun. I feel very lucky to have a strong, supportive partner throughout this experience.
