We had the good fortune of connecting with Strutting Phoenix and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Strutting, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are part of life that we always have to live by and take them when we can. I did not know what I wanted to do with art but I knew that I wanted to create it, it was a risk I was willing to take. There is always a chance of failure but that risk can lead to success. So far 7 years of taking a risk and following a career in art has been successful to me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There is nothing more that I like to do with my art than to display my rich Aztec heritage. For me I started high school being surrounded by tainted people that already had been practicing art for a couple of years. I had to become good and quickly! So I placed my focus on the fundamentals of art and have a widespread knowledge of art over all. I had to learn what art I liked the most and to do that I had to fail a lot and to not be embarrassed about my art. I have had an admiration for comics, manga and anime so I decided to follow that path of work. I learned to ask my friends as much as I could to gain as much knowledge and practiced my craft everyday. I want the world to know that I’m going to reach for the stars and above and help as many people as I can along the way!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like how much rich culture there is in Colorado so I would start by going to the Denver Art Museum. It’s a great place with an array for pieces of art that come from around the world. I like to look at their Mesoamercan collection that is also great for drawing reference.
Next would be the RiNo district which has lots of great murals and small galleries. For me that’s more of a modern art scene.
Nothing goes better with art than food, the RiNo district has lots of great places to eat at. I like to go to Osaka Ramen, it is a nice place and even better food! The ramen makes me think I’m in an anime!
A place that I like is Stanley Marketplace not only for its vast variety of food but it also displays artwork that relates to different cultures.
Depending on the Colorado weather, going to Red Rocks amphitheatre and the Trading Post has great views for some outdoor oil painting.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have supported my career choice from the beginning and helped me grow as a person. Of course all my art peers have pushed me to be the best I can in my craft. Being around good people makes life a little bit easier, we are all living the human experience we all have something to share. Can’t forget good music, for me Metal and Disco inspires my craft and lights a fire in my soul! Thanks to all and those that have spent time with me and have touched my soul.
