We had the good fortune of connecting with Wesley Lang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wesley, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was a college student about to graduate and the job search wasn’t going super great, I also wasn’t sure I wanted to have a career in my field of study (Computer Science) and wanted something with a little more flexibility and creativity. I have a minor in something called Creative Technology and Design and I really enjoyed those classes so I thought to myself why don’t I just do that instead of programming all the time. I knew that I loved photography and I was pretty good at it so I decided to use my talent to try and make some money as well as do something that I know I love for a living. I am still trying to find my place and grow into new things but I think that is all a part of the fun.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am originally a photographer but have been doing a good amount of video work recently as well as learning other forms of visual art including Processing which is a code-based artform, 3D rendering, design, and mixing all of those together. I am really just excited to keep learning and expanding skills and creating something new. I would say I got to where I am through passion, hard work, and knowing where to devote my energy and resources for the best results. It wasn’t always easy but I’ll never regret a moment pursuing what I love. The passion I have for learning and visual arts drove me a lot but it is also important not to get burnt out which can easily happen at the beginning stages. Having the support of family and also other friends who had the same passions helped keep me going through the difficult times. I’ve learned to always value and use the time you have to the most of your ability especially when you have a lot going on which I learned while juggling school, two jobs, and starting up my business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting my goal is to give them a reason to move here. Because I have primarily spent my time in Boulder I would take them there and also because they are also a photographer they would really enjoy the scenery of the mountains there. Some of the outdoorsy things we would have to do would include Flagstaff Road in Boulder which is one of my favorite drives ever, hike at Chautauqua and the Flatirons, and head over to Rocky Mountain National Park and if we feel like driving a bit we could go to the Sand Dunes. Another staple in Boulder is Pearl Street mall which is always fun to walk down and see all the different shops and restaurants. As for food, we would have to try The Sink which is iconic, Cafe Mexicali, and go to my favorite Thai place, Folsom Thai. Honestly, there is so much to do and explore that I haven’t even seen that I am sure he would love to explore them with me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my fiance and family for always supporting me with what I want to do in life even if things weren’t always clear. I would also like to recognize all the YouTubers I watched who not only taught me how to master my craft but also inspire me and give me the confidence to go put myself out there and start my own business.
