Meet Timothy Morrissey | Founder and Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Morrissey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timothy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Life is a risk. The thought of leading a life unfulfilled because I didn’t take a chance or a risk, is that a life really worth living? I have always wanted to succeed and live life on my own terms and that involves taking risks. When I moved to China to start my business, I did it with $700 in my pocket and a few connections that I had managed to make which mostly meant I had a place to crash when I first arrived. Needless to say some 15 years later, the risk was worth it. I cannot imagine my life had I not taken that risk. I guess, to a degree, I have not really viewed failing as an option. Sure, there are certain things that I did not succeed at or crush quite as hard as I wanted to but I’ve never taken a risk with the mindset that failure was an option. When we went to our first tradeshow to introduce Dime Bags to the industry, we didn’t actually have bags to sell. We took orders and crossed our fingers that we would have enough money to manufacture the bags. We ended up selling exponentially more bags than we anticipated or predicted. Without risk taking, I wouldn’t have a company.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Dime Bags is not just my business, every one of the employees plays a large role in creating the company culture and uniqueness of our brand. I am most proud of the challenges we have overcome and continue to face by being adjacent to the cannabis industry. We have changed the name of the game and have grown from being a weed bag made from hemp, to so much more. Our TikTok has over 17.4 million views and continues to reach new audiences every day. I am most excited about this coming year. We are moving into a new warehouse, which is 5 times as large as our current HQ. This new space is going to give us what we need to develop as a business. Getting to this point was not easy. Let’s just say there have been a lot of sleepless nights and green tea. I have learned that if I listen to everyone, we would have gone out of business a long time ago. Mistakes happen, that’s normal. But I just preach to my employees to avoid Grand Mistakes ($1,000+). We make decisions today, so that we have jobs tomorrow. Everyone plays a role in overcoming challenges.
I want the world to know that we aren’t just a brand that preaches all these values, our company culture reinforces the ideas of individuality, non-judgement, and knowing your rights. We hope to continue to spread these messages and educate our audience. We aren’t perfect, no one is. We’re all just a bunch of monkeys floating on a rock in space and we won’t judge you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being born and raised in Colorado Springs, I know all the great spots around town. After living in China for a decade, I came back to the Springs eager to find the flavors that reminded me of my second home. My must eat spots are Pho and Grill, San Chang and 503W. Aside from the must-see Front Range activities like Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak, I would pack up my camping van and take them out on a road trip to see some of my favorite spots across the state like Estes Park, RMNP and Grand Lake.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My first and only job I’ve had prior to owning my own business is working at Elope. This job taught me a lot about business and gave me some connections that I needed in order to pursue my own dreams. I would not be where I am today without the knowledge that I received there.
