We had the good fortune of connecting with Eve Salcito and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eve, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Day one, out of the womb, my dad literally hung me upside down for a spinal adjustment. Considered “new age,” my father was an innovative chiropractic physician, and my mother a gifted massage therapist, very ahead of their times; making kombucha, eating organic, and doing everything wellness related that you could think of even before having 5 kids. I remember coming home after school to a massive platter of cut up raw veggies for a snack, and yes, my siblings and I loved it. My parents had a passion for cooking, so much that two of my brothers became professional chefs. I, too, love to cook, but their beliefs in health and wellness are what had the most profound impact on my life and career.

When I was young, my father would take my younger brother and I to these track events around the world, and we had this special ritual where we would hold our hands out in the stands toward him when it was his turn. He told us that he could feel our supportive energy from our hands and that it motivated him. It was a silly gesture, but in hindsight, my dad opened my mind to how our bodies can empower healing for others, even from afar. I’m bragging and going off track here, but my father was a Harvard graduate, a Master track and field athlete, and after 50 years, his discus and shot put records still stand at his high school. My dad was a competitive athlete. Being active is important to me, but I’m not a competitive person nor do I have any degrees. My dad instilled in me a love for travel, and as far as my career goes, health and wellness.

My mom is fearless, with an incredible drive to forge her own path in life. She was her own badass boss that (also) healed people for a living. I worked at her wellness center throughout the end of high school and through my entire education in massage school. I saw the way people felt walking in and then the positive change when they walked out, the same when I was younger seeing the patients at my dad’s chiropractic office, and I was deeply inspired. From her, I knew I would be my own boss one day. Because of them, I felt I could be creative with my hands and knew at that point that being in the health industry was literally in my blood.

Through traveling with my parents, I found a spirituality that permeates through my work. My parents were spiritual people, and they took each of my siblings and I to India many times to a center for retreats. When I went, the thing that sticks with me to this day is the healing power of love and community. This is the foundation for my practice; my clients are my community, and I am a part of their journey to healing. I grew up in a small beach town in South Florida, but my parents widened my worldview by exploring different cultures, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the alternative perspectives.

I am extremely thankful for my unique upbringing regarding health and healing. Because of this experience, I have become my own advocate. I know the degree of how to take care of myself and get massage and chiropractic for my nervous system and general happiness. I want to live for the now, and after my retirement, so for me, being proactive is essential. I believe that health is a daily practice that builds a strong foundation for a longer life. My parents taught me that, and I hope to pass that along to my community through my massage practice.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been practicing massage therapy for 17 years. I’ve worked at wellness centers, chiropractic clinics, luxury spas, and private islands in the Caribbean. I have experience with treating pro athletes and Olympic swimmers. Anywhere I’ve ever lived, I’d always made it a point to have a side business of doing massage on my own through word of mouth only. Only until the last year or two have I really made the effort to go on my own, almost completely now, and really put my energy into that. It definitely wasn’t easy, but I was ready for it. I now have two studio locations, one in Erie, and the other in Boulder. I’m still working one day week at the St. Julien Spa, in hopes to be on my own completely by the end of the year from building more business. I’ve shifted my perspective on knowing I can do this, and I always notice how that affects my practice in a positive way. I’ve slowly created more of a brand for myself and finally worked on my website. These things really help put myself out there. I strongly believe that massage is a viable modality for enhancing overall health and well-being. I adore my clients of all ages and continue to develop my practice each day. I’ve created a safe and sacred space, to be quiet and drawn within, to breathe in the peace, and to relax and unwind from the stressors of life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to the red rocks trail here in Boulder. It’s quite easy, and you get to the top so quick and the views of Boulder are amazing. The rock formations are incredible. I’d eat at the Kitchen restaurant, especially upstairs. Their cocktails are amazing. I’d also take them to Dry Storage for their amazing onigiri, bread, and pastries. We would walk around wonderland lake in the morning, head to Scott Carpenter park for some sun, and at night get a tiki drink at Jungle. I’d drive up the canyon and stop at Boulder Falls, then head into Nederland to go to Knotted Root Brewery. Maybe a coffee at Alpine Modern and happy hour at Pizzeria Locale… there’s so much to see in Colorado.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The support of my husband has been everything to me. He’s encouraging and always there when I need help with my business. I love you, Matt!
