My favorite quote is a simple one: “givers gain.” Not sure who I heard that from, but it really resonates with my values. I interpret it the same way as “what goes around, comes around.” I do my best to operate my business and my life with an abundance mentality – always looking for win-win scenarios. Whether it’s passing referrals to other gaffers when I’m already booked on a project or just meeting with a film student for coffee, you get what you put in – and giving builds trust and strong relationships. Whenever I’m stuck in my own ways and afraid to try something new and different because I’m afraid I will fail or won’t do well I think of the quote from Alan Arkin’s character from Little Miss Sunshine – “You know what a loser is? A real loser is somebody that’s so afraid of not winning, they don’t even try. Now, you’re trying, right? Well, then, you’re not a loser.“ I feel like this quote has gotten me to do lots of things that I would have not done otherwise. For example I would have never worked on the animated music video. “Nobody wanted to share their stage, so we built our own” – Adrian (DFT co-owner) Before we had a fashion truck, we were trying to get Desiree’s handmade frocks into local boutiques. At the time this was a big deal for us. It didn’t work out. And with that, we decided to open a boutique offering our own individual crafts along with other Colorado artists and designers. Building a stage (in our case, a retrofitted fashion truck) to get exposure and share our passion is what this self-made quote means to us.
