By far the most common conversation we have with the folks we interview is about work-life balance. Starting a business or pursuing a creative career makes finding work life balance really tough because there is no clear start and end to one’s work day. I used to really struggle with work life balance and was constantly unhappy in my own management of it. Years ago I read a book called “Creativity Inc” all about the start of Pixar and how to foster a sustainable creative culture. In it the author talked about a similar issue and how when watching a football game he realized the running back bouncing off a defender was an example of balance. I don’t believe in work/life balance anymore. I believe in work/ life ALIGNMENT.
