We had the good fortune of connecting with Abigail Robson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abigail, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To be honest, I never had any interest in running my own business, but man…having children changed everything for me. The seed was planted when I had lactation come to my home for my second baby girl. At the time, I had been treating pelvic health in a clinic-based setting, but when lactation came to ME, I had the epiphany of “why aren’t we doing this in early postpartum?!”. I then decided to specialize my practice even further into working with primarily prenatal/postpartum women. After taking a birth worker course to refine my birth prep portion of my practice, I decided to take the leap and start out on my own. Going into my own business allowed me to fully provide in-home care only, perform longer treatment sessions that clients deserve (working on the whole body, not just one area), and it allowed me to truly tailor my business to my clients’ needs in a more intentional way. On a personal note, running my own business has given me SO much more (burnout free) time back with my own babies too. I feel like I can give so much more of myself to both my family and my clients. I truly love my job.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is rooted in empowering women to better understand their bodies. I work with women across the lifespan, but specialize specifically in prenatal/postpartum and return to sport. I ultimately got into pelvic health because of my own traumatic birth and while that birth was something I will carry with me forever, I have been so blessed to turn the trauma into passion for others in preparing others for birth. Through each pregnancy and birth, I have realized personally, the major gaps in care we have in women’s health and I want to be part of the movement that is working to close that gap. We deserve attentive, quality care, and to be seen as humans vs a diagnosis or symptom.

What sets me apart from others is that I provide in-home care only, I am available virtually between sessions, I treat the whole body as other PT’s, but have the speciality skillset of evaluating and treating the pelvic floor, and I truly make the client feel like a member of a new, supportive community. I have put together welcome packets and birth prep packets, a digital provider community and have hosted many community events. I want my clients to feel that they are not a patient, but a member of something special curated just for them.

Was this process easy? Honestly, in the grand scheme of things…YES! I believe in signs and things aligning when they are right for you, and wow-did this whole business process truly unfold organically. Of course it has been hard work, but I have loved it, so it doesn’t FEEL like hard work. The parts that have been difficult were not the business logistics or client-care at all. It has been a blessing getting into this and making it my own! My biggest hurdle was putting myself out there with networking and marketing, I have major stage fright–so I really had to pull my bootstraps up with that initially.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Den is an awesome place to take young kids and grab coffee. You can actually have a full conversation there with someone else because there are so many fun activities for the kids to do. You can tell it is Mama-owned from the second you walk in all the way to the bathroom setup. It was my solo first outing as a Mom of 2 and my first outing as a potty-training Mama–both seemingly intimidating situations, but felt stress free due to the accepting environment.

Red Rocks is a must if it is concert season. To be able to get a hike in AND see an amazing show with a view, is the ultimate experience! I absolutely love going to concerts, no matter the weather.

A roadtrip to Leadville would be one of my top mountain things to do. I would suggest staying there for a few days and go to their brewery (highest one in the state elevation wise), go for a few hikes, paddleboard, camp, etc. It is the best, cutest town!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is probably cheesy and cliche, but my husband deserves the first shoutout. He has been 100% supportive every step of the stressful way when laying the foundation down for my business. I am so lucky to be able to pursue my passion with full support.

Professionally, Renegade Motherhood and The Den Entrepreneur Group have both been pivotal in my business. Yes, they are networking groups at their core, but they are so much more than that to me. I have met so many amazing women in those groups who I now consider friends and a support system, while going through the ups/downs of business ownership and motherhood. We’ve been able to get to know each other really well, which has in turn ultimately led to confident, mutual referral sources too!

Lastly, my business class through Pelvic PT Rising gets all the credit for helping me lay the logistical foundation down for my business. Such an amazing community of pelvic floor therapy business owners and so incredible to have a business class led by my niche specifically.
