We had the good fortune of connecting with Agostina Zampieri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Agostina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started traveling the world early on in college, funding my trips with side gigs. I tried a “real job” two years after I graduated as an architect, that lasted me about a month. I consider myself a free soul and being told what to do, or having to request off to go on a trip made me feel like a bird inside a cage. Creating my own business was not something that I thought of, it was just a destination in my pursuit of freedom.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in highly detailed drawings using primarily the stippling technique. In a world filled with instant gratification and screens, I chose to rebel and slow down, drawing dot by dot the mountains that inspire me. The result is intricate, but minimalist and elegant. It has been a process of constant intuitive learning with trial and error. Being from Argentina, there is no challenge too hard for me. I never know if what I’m doing is right, but I’m slowly understanding not to worry about the future much, that everything will fall in place if I just keep working. I try not to worry about what other people may say, my journey is only mine and that will make me a better artist.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in the mountains and go to the city once in a while, either to fly out or to enjoy music. Red Rocks is an easy answer, but also I’m enjoying the new progressive / techno scene at Reelworks. I have yet to explore a lot of the city, I honestly could use some recommendations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started my business (without knowing) during the pandemic. I just moved to Colorado permanently, this time as an adult and not as a J1 visa worker. I was alone, in my cozy west vail studio with infinite time in the most beautiful place in the world. I enjoy solitude, so I made of this time a very productive and happy one. When life started to get back to normal, I began exposing my drawings (and myself) at farmers markets, where I met many people that made me believe I could do this. I’d like to do a special shout out to Sam Alex, Sally January, Caro Forsat, three women entrepreneurs that encouraged, supported and taught me the beginnings of this career.
