We had the good fortune of connecting with Aimee Armitage, MSACN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aimee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I began my Master’s degree in Nutrition, the thought of owning a nutrition practice had not crossed my mind. It wasn’t until the end of my program that I had decided to start up my own practice while working towards becoming a Certified Nutrition Specialist. Originally, the thought of running my own business was terrifying because I had never taken a business class to understand the first thing about running my own company. However, I knew I was up for the challenge. The decision to run my own business has allowed me to practice nutrition in the way I see fit for my clients, which allows me to manage my hours and clients in a way that is more flexible.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I started Simplifying Nutrition LLC at the beginning of 2022 to help individuals feel empowered with their relationship between food and themselves. The health industry can be overwhelming and confusing, which is why I want to help simplify this industry in order to help meet individuals needs. My focus is creating an individualized plan together with the client that may cover food, sleep, stress management, movement, body image, supplements, or additional testing (if needed). I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all motto approach because each person is inherently different.

The idea of starting my own business was daunting due to all the paperwork and legalities, but with the guidance of my supervisors at Clinician’s Incubator, I learned invaluable business tips and tricks to help get my business up and running. The two biggest lessons I have learned are, it is ok to ask for help and networking is a powerful tool. You never know what you can learn from someone else and their business journey.

One of my key values as a nutritionist is taking the time to listen and respecting my client’s beliefs and needs. Instead of instructing them on a generalized nutrition plan, I work WITH the client to come up with a holistic plan together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for a week, we would hit all the areas in and around Denver. On Monday, I would take them on a walk around Sloan’s Lake to see the impressive views of the mountains and finish up with a picnic. On Tuesday, we would scooter around Denver and end up in RiNo to do a little shopping at the local boutiques, including Modern Nomad. For Happy Hour, I would take her to El Five to get an amazing view of Denver.
On Wednesday, we’d grab biscuits from the Denver Biscuit Company and then drive out to the Boulder Flat Irons to hike the First and Second Flatirons Loop. Afterwards, I would show her the town of Boulder and do a little shopping and head to The Sink for a juicy burger or dry rub wings.
On Thursday, we’d get up early to head out to Rocky Mountain National Park and hike to Emerald Lake. Depending on how we’re feeling after the hike, we could go to one of the many breweries around Denver.
On Friday, we would drive up Lookout Mountain and hike Windy Saddle Park. Then, we’d drive back down to Golden to walk around the town and get a bite to eat.
On Saturday, we would head to Root Down for brunch and then make our way to Improper City to meet up with friends for drinks in the afternoon.
Before they head back, we would spend Sunday at the Farmer’s Market on Pearl Street to grab coffee, food, and local goodies.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special shout-out to my mom and sister who have been with me every step of the way, which has made me a better person and nutritionist. Thank you to my close friends and family who have supported me throughout this journey, I appreciate you all.
