We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabrina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was really the next step. I’ve worked in some beautiful salons for some wonderful companies. I’m very lucky in that sense. I was put in challenging situations that made me very uncomfortable and with that came growth. It was only logical after 13 plus years at my last position (where I learned how to be a Mentor, Educator, and finished as an Education Director for the company). So really the only logical way to grow further was to go out on my own with everything I’ve learned.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am Colorado native, I’ve been in the Industry over 3 decades and I absolutely love All types of hair.

I think it’s important to have a big bag of tools/tricks to choose from. Plus I’ve been in this industry so long it’s important  to stay relevant and not get bored to be honest. I’m a Virgo so I love perfection but I’m learning to appreciate the untidy artist in me…. a little.

Education is important to me. I wanna know what’s new and how to do it and then share with others. Some of the Certification in my back pocket are Great Lengths,Hotheads, HairTalk, and Bello Haven Handtied Hair Extensions• Lasio and Brazilian Blow out Smoothing Systems. Plus so many more ….Never Stop Learning. I’ve learned so much over the years and think it’s so important to stay fresh, to continue education no matter how long you’ve been doing it.

In the past I’ve had the honor to work at New York as well as Aspen Fashion Weeks, both were amazing of course! NY Fashion Week was a dream and showed me another level of skill I didn’t know I had. I’ve also had some editorial work featured in Magazines, even an ad in a Vogue. Deep down I do love set/editorial life, Behind the camera of course.

One of my other passions is to mentor. Something about sharing something I know and then seeing someone shine with that new knowledge feeds my soul. I’ve been in the industry a long time and have a lot I’m willing to share.

This new industry gives me hope. It’s no longer about being a Brand and more about being a community. I am surrounded by creatives who support each other and it’s amazing.

I’ve been through a lot in my life from deaths of family members to my own death during a routine cancer surgery in 2010 and If life was telling me anything it was saying slow down and do what’s best for you, take that chance, make a change. If it scares you then do it! Just take the chance! Also it taught me how important it is to be kind to be the light.

I truly believe in  Kindness, inclusion and that what you give you get back 3 fold. Being a hairdresser can bring so much light. Make people feel better, or during Covid it gets them out of the house safely for some human interaction. I love to do hair because it’s for everyone. EVERYONE

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I love the mountains so we would take a drive and hike at some great spots. I most definitely would take them to the Wild Animal Sanctuary and Broken Shovels farm sanctuary for some goat snuggles. Then maybe a day at the salt flats to soak and relax And out for sushi because it’s sushi. And then probably another hike.  The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve had a handful of amazing Mentors and a few awful ones who also taught me priceless information. I cherish them all. But if we come down to it my biggest support is my God Children. They’re My biggest cheerleaders. That unconditional love that comes with brutal honesty that we all need to keep us grounded and remember who we are meant to be. Many times I’ve been down and they lifted me up. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them.
