We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisling Hair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aisling, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was young my parents always had candles lit around the house, naturally I picked up on that same habit. Upon getting older and being able to use candles safely, I started my first collection which grew more and more until I had no where to keep them! Eventually I decided to start learning the process behind creating them. I spent months teaching myself and making mistakes, until I found a system and type of candle that I love to craft. I knew that if I loved collecting candles, I would love to make my own and start a collection of candles that I’ve made for myself.

What should our readers know about your business?
The number one thing I believe that sets Aislings Candles apart from others, is the love and respect I put into each and every candle I craft. With every candle being made as it is ordered, it allows me to spend time crafting it and creates a certain amount of love for each one. The pride and care that I have for each candle is what makes me so excited for someone to receive them. Starting a business was one of the hardest, but most rewarding things I have done yet. Learning the ins and outs of what it takes to create, market and sell has had its challenges, but a strong support system and allowing people to help when things get tough, has made those hurdles a lot easier to jump.
Patience and perseverance are the biggest lessons I’ve learned while starting my business. Patience during the tough times, and perseverance through each mistake. If I didn’t learn either, I would not have picked my head back up and continued.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing I love about Colorado is all of the options for trying new things. There are so many diverse kinds of places to try but my favorite collection of eateries would be in Boulder along Pearl Street. I would go to the Coors brewery for a tour, as well as Breckenridge Brewing in Littleton, CO. Denver is also home to many distilleries that I would take a friend to. I love to hike and be outdoors when I have the opportunity, so my favorite place in Colorado is in the Rockies, specifically Estes Park. Surrounded by mountains, quirky shops, and small time restaurants/breweries, it is a special place to me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to both of my parents for the endless support and encouragement to continue working and learning, despite the challenges and hardships of starting a business. I would also like to shoutout my partner for getting me my first candle-making kit, and supporting all of my crazy ideas.
