We had the good fortune of connecting with Alane Eisenbrandt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alane, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
The Art of Power and
Peace is Every Step
by Thich Nhat Hahn
It has helped me to become mindful of really be present in every moment…with my patients and with my business.
Leading with empathy and compassion to thoughtfully create and guide my work helps to keep me on my right path.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Main Street Dental Hygiene is an independent dental hygiene practice. I am able to practice without a dentist on site, but I have an overseeing dentist.
I am so happy to be able to provide patient care that aligns with my knowledge and ethics.
In a peaceful, slow paced environment, I strive to make my patients feel well cared for regarding their oral health as well as their whole health. Personally getting to know each one that comes to me creates a place in me that fills my soul. From the music to the decor to the patient education and treatment has been carefully and thoughtfully curated by me. It’s my happy place.
Jump and the net will appear!! I was terrified to create a business from the ground up but had so many mentors encouraging and educating me along the way. I tried to make myself available to patients by creating evening and Saturday hours.
You don’t have to know it all at once…you learn as you go, which has been hard as you are not completely in control. But are we ever?
I think the business model of the independent hygiene practice is a great asset to any community.
At Main Street Dental Hygiene, I offer periodontal therapy (deep cleanings), routine teeth cleanings, xrays, fluoride and in office teeth whitening. Patient education is an important focus as well.
All people should have access to exceptional dental hygiene care. I see patients of all socio economic backgrounds from Medicaid, self pay and insurance based.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would go outside!! The trails along the Arkansas River are beautiful.
I would want my friend to stay at The Surf Hotel for an exceptional experience. It’s a magical and beautiful place.
Buena Vista has amazing independent small businesses. Shopping at Rock Paper Scissors, eating at The Asian Palate and coffee at The Roastery gives guests an intimate look into the heartbeat of our town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Marianne Wancura of Salida Dental Hygiene said from the beginning, “I’ve got your back.” She walked me through the process of putting systems in place and just being there for emotional support.
An independent dental hygiene practice is not a common business model but she has successfully been practicing for decades. She is a great example of really caring for her patients while attending to the business side of it as well.
