We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige and Trey Swager and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige and Trey, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is a huge part of life and we consider ourselves to be walking hand in hand with it! To take a chance is the only way to plunge into opportunity! Being open, willing, and even inviting to the unknown, and possible undoing, is our approach to creating a life worth living. Both Trey and I have taken many risks in life including becoming entrepreneurs, creating and running a small business, and traveling across the country in our skoolie to serve our clients in our favorite places. We have learned so many skills along the way which only bolsters our will and grit to continue living as unconstrained a life as we can and the results are that we are more fulfilled, more joyful, more challenged, and ultimately more motivated to deliver the highest quality service to our clients.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the world of YouTube, Trey is a bit of an oddball in today’s world in that he completed a 3 year film vocational program in HS and a 4 year Bachelor’s degree with a Film and Digital Media concentration. He has since gone on to work for Colorado State’s Football program and Strange Music Inc. with Tech N9ne where he accumulated the experience of studio and music video work as well as documentary style film, which has set his editing apart from any competition. The hours spent in the editing bay has honed his skill for creating perfect continuity and flow throughout the piece. His talent then allowed him to work with major companies to create lasting impact through story-telling in features and education. Trey’s lessons learned include: invest and believe in yourself, because if you don’t, maybe no one else will. Also, project your ultimate version of yourself into reality, because people want to work with people who are confident and established.
Marigold Weddings was born from Trey’s vast experience in film and love for documentaries and my desire to figure out how to create a successful business and work alongside my then fiancé. We were not only able to create a trustworthy brand based on Trey’s skill, product, and person, but it has allowed me to make my long-time dabbling in photography a full-time occupation and now minor obsession. Bringing these moments from the present into the future as a timeless expression of love and commitment is a huge thrill for me! We are so excited to get to work with these couples and preserve their memories on the happiest day of their life.
The journey as a married couple and owners of a small business brings along it’s own challenges, but the biggest take away is to always look for your partner’s strengths, you are so much better as a team!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are pretty biased and simple when it comes to our leisure time, so anything outside of the city is our go-to! Fly fishing the South Platte, hiking in the backcountry, eating incredible food at a mom and pop shop in a small town along the way, and sleeping under the stars.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We wouldn’t be where we are without our strong support system! From our close colleagues who have worked along side us and are growing in their own businesses as a constant inspiration, to our siblings who promote our work and keep things in perspective, to our fellow vendors who provide tips and encouragement, we are continually leaning on the amazing people around us. Above all, we owe our parents so much gratitude. They have instilled a spirit of working hard, the idea that we can figure out any predicament, the will to set our standards at excellence, and above all, the encouragement to fail well and keep going. We feel their love and constant support when we are near and when we are thousands of miles away, knowing we have such incredible people who believe in us only emboldens us to believe in ourselves. We can’t thank all of them enough and they deserve individual shoutouts everyday!
