We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Meisner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

I was fortunate to have been raised on our family farm in Northeastern Colorado.  I learned to work hard and do things right.   There was always plenty of work to do, animals that needed fed and tended to, machinery that needed fixed, hay to be cut and baled, more machinery that needed to be fixed.  I was always interested in watching my dad weld things and one day I decided to give it a try. I found out early on that I loved to work with my hands and I was good at it. One of my first jobs was at a local welding shop where I welded trailers.  I had received my certification to be a welder.  After attending college at NJC in Sterling, my home town, I moved to Ft. Collins and went to CSU for two years.  I eventually got married and had a house built in Wellington.  I happened to see a picture of some horseshoe creations that interested me, so I thought I’d give it a try.  I have probably made some 200 horseshoe crosses through the years.  I later decided to buy a plasma cutter and try my hand at making some other metal creations.  The American flag with the pledge of allegiance has been my biggest seller and I have received many, many compliments on my work.

Hi Alex, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up on our family farm in Northeastern Colorado and got good at working with my hands. I learned to weld on the farm and one of my first jobs was welding trailers. I always took a lot of pride in my work and developed a strong skill working with metal. Later on in life, I came across a few metal pieces online that I liked, but knew I could make them myself. I started making gifts for family and friends and it grew through word of mouth.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been making metal projects for people since 2012. My fulltime job keeps me busy, which sometimes doesn’t leave me with much “free” time to be in the garage. I am very meticulous with the work that I do, which sometimes gets frustrating when something doesn’t go as planned with my projects. I really enjoy making custom projects for people that have a personal connection for them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place to go for food, entertainment and people watching is Downtown Fort Collins. Whether it is breakfast at the Silver Grill, lunch at The Rio, or late night gyros, they have it all. In the summer, traveling up the Poudre River for a nice scenic drive or doing a little fishing is quite relaxing, also.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank the Lord Jesus for blessing me with the skills I have to make all of the metal projects that I create. I also want to give a shoutout to my wife Whitney who has a lot of patience and let’s me work late in the garage if I need to.
