Meet Jarod Reyes | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarod Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarod, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the goal of working for myself and being my own boss. I’m not exactly sure where that drive came from, but the idea of running my own business always felt right. When I was running restaurants, I gained a lot of confidence in my leadership and determination, which reinforced that vision. Later, I moved into a branding role, where I spent several years building connections and reigniting my passion for art and design. After consulting with a few friends and industry partners, I decided to just go for it. With a business model that required minimal overhead, I saw it as a low-risk opportunity—and even if it didn’t succeed, I knew I’d walk away with valuable experience.

What should our readers know about your business?
I built Nine Lives by identifying a gap within the artist management industry. In my previous role as a brand manager I worked with tons of artists from all over the world and collaborated with some of the biggest design agencies out there. I had noticed however that some artists were bound by their contracts in ways that didn’t necessarily seem fair to me. My idea was to create a brand that allowed more freedom within the agency/artist relationship and to build solid partnerships around trust and open communication. That has been the vision and what sets us apart and I believe this way of conducting businesses transfers over to the customer/client experience in a very positive way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s this little Mexican joint right by me called La Casa Del Burrito and in there is a solid team of abuelitas taking orders and cooking some of the best Mexican food in the Broomfield area so were going there for breakfast and then then im a big movie guy so were hitting the AMC theatre who has the biggest slept on bavarian pretzel right now and were getting one of those with an extra cheese cup, side of jalapenos. For lunch were hitting GQue BBQ and heading out to a show at Red Rocks in the evening. It might sound cliche but you can’t let a friend come to Colorado without seeing a show at Red Rocks. Then during the week we play a few rounds of golf, get cocktails in Rino and maybe hit a few dive bars; and on one of the nights we go to Blackhawk where we spend too much money at the craps table and eat too much at the buffet.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I don’t think I’ve given enough credit to the University of Northern Colorado for the role it’s played in my journey. During my undergrad years at UNC, I was introduced to the company where I’d spend the next 14 years of my career. The knowledge and skills I gained in the classroom directly contributed to my success across every role I held there. Now, I’ve returned to UNC to pursue my MBA in Marketing, and the impact has already been significant. The program is helping me build and grow my own business, while also sharpening the strategic and creative skills I need to thrive as an entrepreneur and leader.
