We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Fitzpatrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexa, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
This is going to sound like basic habits but I swear by these! Growing up, I always failed to stick to a routine and would always end up lost when it came to commitments. Keeping a planner, creating a daily routine and writing down all information that I feel will be helpful are just a few things I’ve continuously done that have attributed to my success!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve come along way from that dreamy eyed 17 year old who thought taking pictures with her ipod touch counted for a photoshoot. I’m proud to be a signed curve model to Wilhelmina Denver and to have a continuously growing portfolio. But it took a lot more hard work than people realize to go from a freelance facebook model to a signed agency model. When I started, I joined over 20+ Facebook groups promoting “modeling opportunities” and promising vouge level photos. It took longer than I’d like to admit for me to realize what freelance was especially when it came to the quality of photos. An important lesson I learned from that experience is to Do Your Research! Before agreeing to a shoot make sure A. The photographer is a legit person (not a creep) that other models have worked with and preferably had good experiences with and B. That you know what you’re signing up for, stalk their facebook and instagram, see how their photos look and how their models look, if you aren’t liking what you see then you know what to expect and if you like what you see, than you can have high expectations for the wonderful photos you’ll get! I think a big block that stood between me and applying to an agency was my own thoughts. I harshly judged myself into thinking that I couldn’t be signed because of my natural features. I’ve learned that agency’s are NOTHING like there presented in movies and television! They look for flaws and things that make you stand out because they’re what make you unique when it comes to the social media market! Don’t let height, weight or shape stop you from applying! You’d be surprised to what kind of magic happens! I think the most honest advice that I can give when it comes to becoming a model is to as us Fitzpatricks say ” Never Give Up!”. Opportunities rarely just fall into your lap! It takes hard work and dedication to follow your dreams but the pay off is so rewarding! You can do anything you set your mind to!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have a social media platform with My Best friend Monica Shelton that we call @realwitchandfairy . Where we explore all the best local shops and restaurants! So if I had a friend visiting from out of town, we’d definitely only go to local places mostly food places because they’re my favorites and I feel they really capture the colorado spirit! For Breakfast/Brunch we’d go to the Original Pancake house or pick up some Handmade delicious pastries from Butter Moon Bake Co! For lunch we’d check out the stanley market where the have an AMAZING local eateries food court featuring fantastic shops including my favorite Rock’n’ Lobster roll! For dinner we’d go to Kickin Chicken for some OUT OF THIS WORLD Chicken! And for dessert we’d go to Sugar sisters bakery, Zero Degrees or Heaven Creamery!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will always shout out and dedicate my success to my amazing family and wonderful friends! My parents, brother and grandparents held me to the family motto “Fitzpatrick’s Never Give up!” which has continuously helped me stay determined on my goals and well…never give up! My family has always been my biggest fans and have encouraged me to pursue my dreams and goals! Words cannot describe how much I love them! I’m very fortunate to have the absolute best friends in the world. When I’m with them, it feels like I’ve known them forever and there like sisters! Katya Nuñez has helped me come out of my comfort zone a lot especially when it comes to modeling and Fashion plus she gives the best advice when I need it the most! Molly Scher has never failed to leave me in awe when it comes to her hair and makeup skills, she always makes me laugh and has really helped me feel more confident and embraced the way I look! And Monica Shelton is a lot of things, but what makes her so important to me and my growth as a person is that she’s kept me going even on my roughest days when I was at my lowest, it’s not often you find someone who will stick with you at your worst and I’m lucky she’s stuck around to put up with me and experience my crazy life! I seriously don’t know who I would be without her.
