We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Lorence and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, why did you pursue a creative career?
By day I work in Corporate America so it’s refreshing to have a creative outlet after work. I can be creative in ways I never thought, before pursuing social media, I didn’t know that I could make interesting content. I continue to pursue this side hustle because it connects me to wonderful people in the Denver community and it fills my cup outside of my day job.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am so early in my creative side hustle journey that I don’t know exactly where it will go. I’m completely open to however it is received and who wants to work along with me! When I’m working in this industry, I always want to make sure my values align with whomever I’m partnering with. I’ve learned so much about myself in this creative journey, there have been up’s and down’s when it comes to creating and having ideas. My brand, Denver Doer, is relatable and encouraging. I want people that live in Colorado to relate to it, find fun things to do, and feel empowered.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This sounds like my favorite thing to do! Let’s say it’s a weekend in Denver over on East Colfax/Cheesman Park area.
1. Brunch at MakFam – I love this locally owned and passionate restaurant on North Broadway. This ends for a bit in September so run!
2. Walk at Cheesman Park – such a magical and vast park, right in the heart of Denver!
3. Denver Botanic Gardens – I’m obsessed with the Japanese Garden. Go see those Bonsai trees.
4. Tattered cover – East Colfax gem of a bookstore.
5. Walk around the Bluebird district and check out their vintage shops and restaurants for snacks. Lula Rose is a great coffee shop.
6. Dinner at Sap Sua – another perfect locally owned and passionate restaurant over on East Colfax
7. Drinks at the Tin Man – cute and divey spot.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I receive a lot of support from the people I spend day to day with because typically, they are tagging along with me to a creative event/collaboration/etc. I also credit my success to working with and learning from friends on their creative endeavors.
