We had the good fortune of connecting with Ali Adsit and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ali, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Ultimately I believe that the way we frame our art is just as important as the art itself. The first thing that I notice when I walk into someone’s space is whether or not they have art hung on the wall, and more so how they have framed their art. Frames can accentuate the subjective beauty of art and completes the story of our interior walls. I started painting frames as a form of creative release. As my frames caught the attention of my family, friends, and followers, I started creating more for others. Being able to create one of a kind frames for people deepened my passion for custom frames and I knew I wanted to continue creating frames for the foreseeable future. Thus Framed Visions LLC was born. My business embodies a vision of framed art that creates a unique visual experience for anyone who views them.
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I think what sets me apart in the custom framing industry is that each frame is completely unique. I carefully cater paint schemes to the art that will live within the frame and I’m intentional about envisioning how the frames will hang in my customer’s spaces. I’m also mindful about my environmental footprint. All of the frames that I paint are either hand-picked at thrift stores, estate sales, or donated to me. Bringing new life to previously loved frames helps avoid the mass production of frames that you’d buy at a big box store. I think it’s important to think about the way our purchasing habits influence the state of our world. Plus, I’m a woman-owned business (and proud of it!).
I’m where I am today because I choose to be creative, in some way, everyday. Sometimes this means staying up until 4:00 AM to ride a creative wave, or shutting myself off from the outside world on the weekends so that I can concentrate on creating the best version of my art. I wouldn’t say it’s easy, though the more I create, the more confident I become. Challenges are inevitable – I think realizing this is the first step to overcoming anything difficult. I also try to remain humble, be patient with myself, and call on those I admire and respect for advice when needed.
The beauty of creating art – and in my case, painting frames – is that there are lessons each and every time. Experimentation is crucial, and when I pay attention to each outcome (whether good or not so good) I become a better artist.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I always love bringing people to RiNo. There’s a vast array of fun and unique murals to look at while you walk around – the artistic talent of people in Denver is unreal. We’d end the day with dinner at Izakaya Den on Pearl St. in Denver, which in my opinion is the best sushi around. I would also bring them to RitualCravt, one of my favorite shops located in Wheat Ridge. It’s truly magical and you can get lost in looking at all of the wonderful items they sell. Lastly, if you’re hanging out with me I can guarantee we’re going thrifting and bouncing around antique stores.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to recognize my brother, Nathan Adsit. He’s an incredible artist (truly mind-blowing) and I’m fortunate to call him one of my best friends. He gives some of the best advice and he inspires me on a daily basis to perfect my craft and to succeed in life. I also want to recognize my parents for always supporting my new ideas and pathways in life. I’m blessed to have a supportive (and creative!) family – I know this can be rare.
