We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Howie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been an entrepreneur at heart, so starting a business felt natural to me. My thought process behind photography came down to understanding what families and large groups have to offer the lens, and it just blossomed from there!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nothing about being an entrepreneur is easy, other than the joy I feel when I capture exactly what I was hoping for. As I continue to grow my business I see plenty of road blocks, and it is my job to find a way to the other side. I take these challenges one by one, and stay in the moment, rather than trying to find an answer to every single thing in one moment. This all takes time!
Photography is an incredibly saturated market, so I know that when people hire me it is because they’ve heard about my laid back approach. My approach is never stiff or calculated. It is free flowing, easy going, and fun.
My biggest take away is this: getting to know my subject is key! Everyone is different. It is my job to showcase their uniqueness.
My hope is that the world knows I LOVE what I do, and I am so humbled at the opportunity to capture precious moments.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh! This is my most favorite type of thing to do…
day 1:
We’re going to sleep in, then head out to grab coffee + snack at one of our locally owned coffee houses. Well enjoy our time, catching up and talking about our fun weekend ahead
We’d leave the coffee shop and I would take them to castlewood canyon, where we’d walk along the trail and enjoy the views!
For lunch, I’d have a delicious charcuterie board waiting for us at home, and perhaps I’d pair that with a nice rosé.
Later afternoon we would chill before heading to dinner at Sierra in Lone Tree.
Bed time!
Day 2-
MANITOU!
We will wake up when we’re ready and head to Manitou. We’ll shop, eat, drink, shop more, and then head to the spa for a massage and hot tub soaks with views of the incline!
We have booked a cute b&b, and will order dinner in and hang in our comfy clothes planning out our next adventure!
Day 3-
Heading to the Broadmoor for a delicious breakfast, then heading back towards Denver…
We don’t have much planned, and will do whatever we feel until my friend has to leave. The options are endless and we fly by the seat of our pants.
Saying goodbye is always hard, but what a wonderful weekend we’ve had!
My favorite places in CO so far:
Manitou
Estes
Any trail to hike
Larimer Square
Ball Arena for an Avs game
Impossible to get it all in in one weekend, hence the planning of our next trip 😉
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves the most recognition..in everything I do! They consistently encourage and uplift me. They always have creative ideas to help me brainstorm photo shoots, AND I put them in front of the lens before anyone else 🙂
