We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Wagstaff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, what do you attribute your success to?
I’ve always believed that culture is the most important factor for a successful business. When hiring I am very particular in making sure that everyone selected is on board with the brand- natural, holistic, artistic and evidenced based, as well as having generally high EQ (emotional intelligence). I also personally train each injector because I want to make sure I know that clients can get great results from anyone they see!
Once you have the right people, I think if you take great care of your people, they will take great care of your clients. I have found this to be true as an employee and as a business owner.
At Elite, we also have regular meetings and a book-club where we read self-development books and meet up monthly to talk about them. We all know that the more we work on ourselves, the better we become as humans and colleagues. And the more we take care of ourselves, the better abled we are to take care of our clients.
All of these factors have created a successful brand for us with very happy employees and clients!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own Elite Medical & Aesthetics in Lone Tree, CO 80124. We are a full service Medical Spa offering injectables, lasers, and skin treatments. Our niche is our holistic and natural approach to aesthetics. We only offer the cleanest safest products, we do not partner with any big pharma brands, and we tell people “no” all of the time if a procedure is not in their best interest. Even our skincare products are non-toxic with no artificial fragrance, parabens or phalates; our cleaning products are all non toxic as well.
We never promote anything that can be done naturally either. For instance, if someone wants fat modification but is working with a trainer to get to their goal weight, we are not going to do fat reducing injections on them, because what if they don’t need them in a month? Why waste their money? However, some things can’t be exercised into improvement, so that’s why we have things like lip filler, it’s a balance :).
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in the South Denver area, near Lone Tree, CO. I am super picky about eating out because of crappy ingredients and seed oils. A few favorite spots with at least less trashy oils are: Marcos Coal Fired Pizza in Englewood (gluten free hell’s kitchen is amazing) & Old Blinking Light in Highlands Ranch. If I am ignoring seed oils and just want my favorite food though I would go to Haveli Indian off County Line and Broadway in Littleton. To meet up with friends, especially those that will need to bring the kiddos, we love Prost in Highlands Ranch.
I don’t really drink but there are also a ton of cute breweries down here. Lots of amazing bike trails and hiking too! If you play volleyball I would definitely recommend some sand volleyball at any of the free outdoor courts (like Inverness) or indoor in the Winter at the island in Aurora!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I feel like it’s trendy to talk about being “self-made”, especially as women, because for some reason we all think that we should be able to do everything ourselves. And while I am a first generation college graduate, paid for my own education, and boot-strapped my business, I have soooo many people to thank for their love and support. Mostly my husband if I had to pick one.
My husband and I have been married for 10-years and are both entrepreneurs. The team work we have had to support each other’s success has been invaluable. When I was in grad school to get my NP (Nurse Practitioner) I worked full time until the last 6 months and then took 2 months off before my boards to study. My husband supported me during this time and then when I got my first NP job, he quit his job to work on his business. I spent 3 years working in the hospital as a NP and then when his business was ramped up, I quit my full time job to run my business. We had such great team work and it allowed us both to “boot-strap” our businesses without investors or taking out loans.
Additionally, my husband is a marketing and SEO expert, so I got to get his free advice when starting up and getting my name out there more quickly. Then when I hired for this position I knew what to look for, and can even help with this area of the business.
I have always been ambitious and I know I would have succeeded either way (eventually), but his support really helped me make my dream a reality much more quickly and with a tad less stress.
