We had the good fortune of connecting with Aly Sanguily and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aly, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
When we started Batch, we knew we wanted to keep it an integral part of the community. We’ve always been very philanthropic in our business model, we’ve always opened the doors to artists, makers, creators, dreamers. Hosting space for locals and visitors to enjoy was important but we always try to take it a step further. We’ve hosted countless fundraisers for non-profits, hosted space for artist pop up stores, collaborated with local farmers and ranchers and beyond. We are known as being a community hub for our town because we work really hard at it and it’s important to us.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My husband, Chase and I opened the Roaring Fork Beer Company in 2012 and we sold it over a year ago. We decided to keep the tasting room space and turned it into a full boutique craft cocktail bar with local wines and beers, we also make artisan neapolitan pizzas. We are in the heart of the historic district of Carbondale and our bar is in one of the original buildings of main street, almost 115 years old. It was definitely a brand new challenge for us, essentially creating a new business that was no longer attached to the brewery, we also decided to do this in the first winter of covid, so we were shut down for awhile. Nothing is easy when you are a business owner, it takes serious dedication and perseverance but we knew that the brewery had such a positive impact on our community, so we wanted to keep that going with Batch. It can be hard to constantly try to stand out, to be creative, to think outside of the box but we involve our community and also it’s artists and non-profits in any way we can, it’s what keeps you from being just another bar on the block. Community is everything to us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always feel so fortunate that our business in the Roaring Fork Valley. Not only is the scenery unmatched but the energy of Carbondale is so special. When we have tourists ask us what they should do, there is just always so much to list. Getting breakfast at SILO is a must, Lacy and her team make everything from scratch and always ask for the special hot sauce when you go! If you are on the move for breakfast, go to Ploskys, the jewish deli, everything they make is delish. Spending time on the crystal river is magical, there is tons of hiking and exploring to do. We love to take our paddleboards out to Dinkle Lake at the bottom of Sopris Mountain, go to Marble for some BBQ and margaritas at Slow Groovin, stroll around town and enjoy the current exhibit at Carbondale Arts or the Carbondale Clay Center, have dinner at Phat Thai, Tiny Pine or Allegria, maybe check out a concert in the park. Carbondale is such a gem and unlike the other towns that surround it, it’s got a funky, grassroots but hip energy and more and more we are seeing the secret is out about our town.
