We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been a personal trainer and have worked in the fitness industry and many gyms for the last 18 years of my career. I was in management for a long time as well where I was able to develop my expertise and teach it to other trainers. After completing graduate school where I got the opportunity to formally teach I fell in love with teaching. I have taught wellness and health education as a coach for years and realized I wanted to create my own space in the health and fitness industry where there is so much misinformation and confusion for people who really need help in improving their health. In my business I am working to marry coaching and training and health education to spread the word to get more people moving. People struggle with where to start and what they actually need to Implement a program , mainly because they think it’s so much more complicated than it actually is. I’m here to lower the barrier and simplify exercise and nutrition to empower people with right tools and knowledge to build a sustainable healthy lifestyle.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m extremely passionate about getting people moving and outdoors. We as humans are not meant for the lives that we live; sedentary. We did not evolve to sit indoors all day. Only 20% of our population is meeting minimum exercise recommendations which is such a public health concern. These numbers are even lower in women. Strength training specifically is so critical to our health especially for women and is often overlooked I am a coach and health educator and public speaker here to educate and coach people through habit and behavior change. I think I’m different than most personal trainers because I focus so heavily on the whole person and work to reach larger audiences. I’m also very evidence based and create programs that are effective but are focused on the long term, no quick fixes here. That I has been a challenging business model since people want quick fixes and sticking to my guns and not resorting to mainstream popular trends in order to just make a sale. I care about making long lasting changes and Impacting lives on a larger scale. There’s still so many things im learning about and have had to outsource business wise like my marketing and website has been such a headache but thankful for the people around me that have been there to help and the people in my corner cheering me on.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I am an outdoor enthusiast I would plan a local hikes and adventures.. we could explore horsetooth and Lory state park at Arthur’s rock, maybe some mountain biking and up the poudre canyon with fishing or rock climbing. we would go eat breakfast at rainbow an bluebird in Fort Collins, dinner at illegal Pete’s and emporium and I would likely cook dinner so we aren’t eating out the whole time. We would go shopping in downtown, and likely head up to Estes for shopping food and adventure around in Rmnp

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is my number one cheeleader and supporter. Each step of the way he has encouraged me to continue on even when its been difficult. He has shouldered some of the financial burden when I was first starting to make sure I could continue pursuing the growth of my business. He tells me all the time that he believes in what I am doing and that he wants me to pursue what makes me happy. I would for sure not been able to get up and running without his love and support.
