We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I enjoy risk, conscientiously. That may seem contradictory but it’s actually a beautiful way to grow. Taking a risk is necessary to break out of your comfort zone. I have gained more confidence and self-awareness by taking risks. But I don’t believe in just throwing caution to the wind…things get blown over pretty quickly that way. Instead, I evaluate the risk, weigh pros and cons, and then take the leap. A willingness to move beyond what is known and safe has allowed me to start my own business and work in a career that I love. Even now, I am taking the steps (and the risk) to hire and grow my business even amidst the uncertainty of the world we live in. It’s nervous, yet excited energy that drives me. I know the end reward is very worth the risk. In my relationships, I’ve decided to risk speaking up and being unapologetically me. It’s strengthened most relationships, and changed others, but always in a positive outcome. I believe in risks – we are capable of far more than we know!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am so in love with my business! I own Amber Stevens, LLC which provides massage therapy and health coaching services. I’ve grown my brand under me with the idea of being the “go to person” for wellness in the community. It’s worked! But now I need to grow, so I am currently rebranding to “Boundless Body and Wellness”, hiring staff and expanding services. It’s an exciting time. Being a small business owner has its shining moments, and questioning moments. It’s never easy, but it’s always wonderful. Whenever challenges arise, I face them (avoiding them only makes them linger) and puzzle out a solution. Some of the lessons I’ve learned: there’s always a solution; it’s never as bad as it seems; stay focused and don’t lose sight of the vision; I am capable of great things; My confidence must be greater than my doubt; others need my services. Keeping the focus on my clients – what they need, how they need it, and why it’s important – has made my business successful. I’m most proud of the connection, trust and loyalty my clients share with me. I know I’m making a difference and helping others to be successful in their health and wellness!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many wonderful places to visit. I’m a nature girl, so of course going to Rocky Mountain National Park or several of my favorite local hikes is a must. We would eat at Domo Sushi, Duo, or Colorado Plus and have drinks at the Arvada Tavern or the Mercantile. We would also visit the Denver Botanic Gardens and Museum of Nature and Science. Honestly though, my husband is an amazing chef, so sitting on my back patio under the giant Ash tree sipping a margarita is my favorite place to be!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to dedicate this shoutout to my family and friends who have supported me all the way. They cheered me on during my successes and pulled me up from the low points. I love that I can be an example to my boys of finding your own path, taking the necessary steps and doing it all with love. They are my biggest fans and inspiration. I also want to recommend and shoutout Tara Mohr whose book, Playing Big, has been a constant motivator and compass for me professionally.
