We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Being a therapist, working for someone else seemed like the most logical route. Then I slowly learned that working for someone else means less pay and less autonomy, as many employees feel today. I was giving a company 50% of my pay to not be able to pick my own clients and focus on the type of treatment I really wanted to provide. So my own business looked hard but so freeing in so many ways. After learning how I conduct sessions and accept insurance on my own; it became a no brainer.

What should our readers know about your business?
Here at Butterfly Therapeutics we have a philosophy: Where Change Meets Transformation! This is the philosophy that we have to do something we have never done to feel something we have never felt. That in order to experience transformation in our lives, action changes must actually be made and not just talked about.

Following this philosophy is what got me here today to this business. From moving out at 17 years old, to battling an addiction for years that I am now proudly 11 years clean from, to moving across the country and starting my business without knowing anyone in my field here. Every step of the way I told myself, just another action step will get you to this transformation! During this I learned mostly that a plan is simply an outline not a plan. That when we let go of expectations of our transformation, that is when we truly reach it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I visited the Garden of The Gods for the first time and climbed to the top of a rock and looked over the park I knew this was where I wanted to live. I would take everyone there who came to visit. The beauty and peace that nature park gives me is beyond any other experience!

I’m a huge foodie and finding places like Red Gravy, 420 Slice, and hops & drops was amazing and must eat choices for anyone visiting!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special thank has to be given to my Wife, Jenna. Not only as she given me the encouragement and support to jump head first into my own private practice; but who she is largely inspired my specialties. Meeting her when I was working with special needs kiddos and learning she is Autistic herself pushed me to specialize in nuro-divergence. She taught me so many things about being nuro-divergent that a book or class never did. Now in-home behavioral therapy for nuro-divergent individuals is a specialty I have been able to go into with passion and more knowledge then before; knowledge not only about what these individuals experience but about what their family does as well.
