We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Duric and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk can be viewed as a double-edged sword. On one hand, taking risks can lead to growth, new opportunities, and professional development. Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new techniques, experimenting with different makeup /hair styles, or taking on challenging projects can help you expand your skills, build confidence, and distinguish yourself from others in the industry.
On the other hand, risks can also carry potential downsides. They can involve uncertainties, potential failures, or financial implications. It’s important to carefully assess the potential risks before taking them and to have a backup plan or safety net in place to mitigate potential negative outcomes.
In the context of a artist’s career, taking calculated risks can help you stand out and progress professionally. Some examples ; Trying new makeup/hair trends, Collaborating with new clients or photographers,Expanding your skill set ( most of you may not know that I started as a makeup artist and then get into hair styling as well ) ,etc…
It’s essential to assess risks based on your own goals, and comfort level. Taking calculated risks, backed by research, industry knowledge, and a solid plan, can help you progress in your career as a makeup/hair artist.
I learned that people who are taking risks are one step in front of people who are seating and waiting that something good happen .
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To set yourself apart from others in the makeup or hair industry, you can focus on several key aspects: -Skill and Expertise: Continuously improving your makeup/hair skills is essential. Stay updated with current trends, techniques, and products through training, workshops, and online resources. Strive for excellence in your craft and be known for delivering high-quality work.
-Specialization and Niche: Consider specializing in a particular area of artistry that aligns with your interests . I’m bridal hair/makeup artist and I love and respect them like no one . I cry with moms on every wedding day and that’s how I’m .
-Professionalism and Reliability: Building a reputation for professionalism and reliability is crucial. Arrive on time for appointments, communicate effectively with clients, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and provide exceptional customer service. Being dependable and professional will help you build trust with clients and earn repeat business and referrals.
Doesn’t matter how long you are in the industry ,always be willing to learn more and collaborate . Remember, setting yourself apart in the wedding hair/makeup industry requires a combination of skill, creativity, professionalism, and a strong work ethic. Continuously seek growth, stay adaptable, and strive to exceed client expectations. Over time, your unique qualities and commitment to excellence will help you stand out from the crowd and thrive in the industry. And ,the most important is to learn from your own mistakes, like I did .
And learn that is not every client for you and it’s ok to say no sometimes . Be respectful and people will respect you as well . We all can learn how to do beautiful styles and gorgeous looks , but being present and being you is the most important, and clients can feel that .
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m so honored to live in the beautiful mountain town called Vail . Vail offers excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities. The picturesque Vail Village provides a charming atmosphere with boutique shops, restaurants, and après-ski activities. In the summer, visitors can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, fishing on the river , paddleboarding on the lakes , golfing, and exploring the scenic beauty. And , I’m coming from Europe so this definitely feels welcome and charming .
If you love to hike, one of my favorite places is Beaver creek lake which is 13 min from the Vail, or Hanging lake , around 50 min drive from the village but 100% worth . It is a breathtaking view ,and it’s definitely something what is unforgivable . The Nottingham lake down in Avon is the place where most visitors hangout. You can bring your own barbecue and enjoy with your friends, paddleboard all day or enjoy some live concerts doing the summer time .
Some of my favorite food places are the restaurant down in Avon called Vin48 with amazing small plates options and delicious cocktails , if you are looking for fine dining experience restaurant in Beaver creek called Splendido will set all your expectations to another level . If you love big Bordeaux , White Burgundy or the lamb chops , that’s the place to go.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes . For people who doesn’t know , I’m originally from Serbia and English is not my first language and i always have that language barrier . To read and understand a book ,takes me way more time than someone else . Overall, I need to say that reading a “The Power of one more ” from Ed Mylett changed my entire mind . This book focuses on the concept of consistently pushing yourself to do one more thing in various areas of life, including business and personal success. It encourages individuals to push their boundaries, go the extra mile, and consistently take action towards their goals. And,if you don’t fight for yourself, nobody will do that , I promise you . You can go so faraway with a right mindset and I’m perfect example for that .
