Meet Analise Lawson | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Analise Lawson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Analise, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly my kids! I wanted to be able to work my schedule around being a mom. I wanted a schedule that I made, I was in charge of and to be my own boss. I love photography and have worked in the photography field for many years. So starting my own business in this field was just meant to be!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets my art apart from others is my consistent need to be better. I am never satisfied which may sound like a negative, but really it is what keeps me going. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I edit and album and blow myself away, but I am always striving to do more. I want to continue learning, growing and become the best I can be for myself, my family and most of all for my clients. My creative side does best when I am allowed to grow in my own time. I find this really rewarding with owning my own business, I am on my own time schedule. Each day I try to learn a new thing, or improve on my artistic capabilities in some way.
I also have HUGE heart, but I think you really need that to be a successful photographer. These are not just people and not just pictures we are taking, these are humans and memories. These are ways we remember, ways we cope, ways we hold on and never forget the moments. I think that is what makes me the most proud of myself, is my ability to dig deeper than the surface when photographing. I really search for the moments and try to capture those best I can for all of my clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ohhh this is a fun one!
Breakfast – we would go to First Watch breakfast cafe. They have the best breakfast and tons of delicious but healthy options. Their fresh squeezed juice options that change seasonally are SO yummy.
Second we would go for a hike probably at Chataqua in boulder (as long as its a weekday!!!) otherwise we would find a trail probably outside of Boulder or Golden. There are SO many places to hike here the list goes on.
We might hit up the Denver Zoo because it is my girls’ favorite spot!
Another fun place we would spend time is MY HOUSE! We would definitely try to have a barbecue with our friends and family out here to celebrate the visit. We love having people over and having back yard parties. My fiancé Jeremy is a DJ and owns Music by the Mile. So he always knows how to put on a good party!
I love my little town of Erie and we have some of the BEST places to eat and drink. Piripi is an amazing Mediterranean restaurant that has opened in the last year. The owners Hugo & Victoria are so down to earth and so town oriented. They created a restaurant with Hugo, the chef, making art with his meals (honestly they are to die for) and an amazing patio that overlooks our small downtown with heaters in winter and nice shade in summer. They have such yummy drinks and I could spend hours at their restaurant.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My first shoutout is dedicated to Dawn Nicoli Photographer in San Diego. She was the start of my photo career. I worked for Dawn throughout high school and learned so much from her. I learned how to market, how to shoot, I learned that photography is not a JOB it is an ART. She taught me dedication, she taught me patience and above all she taught me that if I work hard enough I can build my business from the ground up and be extremely successful doing what I love! Dawn has been a mentor and I really appreciate how much she taught me! I am very grateful for you Dawn!
Second I want to thank my mom! She is always there for me when I need a hand. She has helped me build my business from loans, to moral support, to shoutouts to earning clients. I am so grateful for her continued support and how she pushed me to get through the hard spots. She never let me quit and has always been there to help pick me up when I am down. Even when COVID hit and my panic ensued she always encourage me to persevere for my business and my babies.
I want to also thank my friend Beth! When I was trying to decide what to do with my life with kids coming into the world, Beth really helped me narrow down what I love and where I am successful. She encouraged my entrepreneurial side and she helped me build ideas on where to begin or when I find myself in a rut. Starting my own business was her great idea and I am so glad I followed through with it! I am grateful that she has been a soundboard and a positive light for me through my business adventure.
Lastly but definitely not least, my fiancé Jeremy who has ALWAYS stuck by my side and been there through countless late nights of editing and frustrations I go through. He has also been there to celebrate my victories and held my hand through all of the ups and downs of business owning! Thanks babe for all you do – your hard work is what really allowed me to follow my dream!

It has been a stunning metamorphosis to watch Analise go from a high school senior to a business woman and mother with tremendous artistic flair.
To know that I had anything to do with her journey makes my heart smile. She couldn’t have picked a more rewarding career.
