We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke/John Oliphant/Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke/John, how do you think about risk?
We both have always been drawn to adventure; always in search of challenging ourselves to grow as individuals. So naturally, we dove head first into the natural foods business and created the Wild Monkey Bar. It was risky considering neither of us had experience in the food industry, but we knew we had created something special. By no means has this road been easy, but what we have gained from the little bit of struggle has been so rewarding. We say this often: invest in yourself, find what it is that makes you happy and go after it!
What should our readers know about your business?
Wild Monkey was a total wild card for us, John had a background in digital media and Brooke is a pediatric nurse. We originally created the Wild Monkey Bar for ourselves, for our active and on-the-go lifestyle and adventures. We were determined to create something that we could look forward to during our hardest days. A multi layered candy bar with a smooth delicious combo of creamy, crunchy, sweet and salty. There is really nothing like it on the market today and we are so proud to share it with everyone!
When creating Wild Monkey, we wanted to use the bar as a platform to inspire others of the true importance of getting outside, incorporating activity into your daily lifestyle, and eating a balanced diet. We love sharing our story of the behind the scenes on instagram, come say hello! @wildmonkeybar
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Boulder is a special place, we say this all the time, so naturally we would spend our time exploring Boulder. First, we would wake up early and hit Beleza Coffee Bar, watching the crew masterfully make one of the best cups of coffee in town. Grabbing a pastry to go (made by Lucky’s Bakery), we’d make our way to the Flatirons. To get the juices flowing, we’d jog up to the 2nd Flatiron and scramble our way to the top for an epic morning view of Boulder. Next up, Lolita’s breakfast sandwiches. Maybe a quick siesta, then take the bikes out for a cruise through the neighborhoods, making our way downtown to Jungle Bar for a painkiller (one of their killer cocktails). Finishing the night walking down Pearl Street, doing the touristy things. Finishing the night at Sweet Cow for some ice cream!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special shoutout to Sydney Tomasello, your energy and positivity is infectious! Thank you for always being there to support and guide us, being our hype gal, and most importantly always making us smile!
Sydney is constantly pushing the bar as a brand strategist. She naturally has a way of connecting with people through her unique positive outlook on life. Sydney recently stepped into the world of freelance to expand her work with brands that she connects with. You are one of a kind, we love watching you create such impactful work into this world. Keep crushing Syd!
