We had the good fortune of connecting with André Fidusi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi André, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always liked art, especially illustrations. I’ve been drawing since I was a kid, but I never thought about pursuing this career. I majored in advertising and journalism and did some work. I did some drawings too, but nothing professional. In 2006 I decided to take it seriously and started showing the illustrations to several professionals and I saw that I could be a drawing professional too. Since then I work as a professional illustrator. Today, my main job is with football. I started sending illustrations to various media, websites, blogs and others, so I got notoriety and other works. My main channel of dissemination is social networks. It is important to generate content and always be in evidence on the internet.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Everything I know today I got through practice and research. The internet has helped me a lot to meet other artists and see different styles. I say that to be a good illustrator you need to follow this rule: research, practice and patience. The challenges are daily, always looking for new ways to perfect the line of illustration. So practice is very important. Today I turn my passion for football into art and try to pass it on to people. Football involves a lot of feeling and it’s really cool to be able to pass that on to them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take him to a game with Galo (Clube Atlético Mineiro), my favorite team. Then we would take a tour of the football museum that is located in the Mineirão stadium, and I would show a caricature I made of the player Reinaldo that is on display there. Then a tour of the city, showing the tourist spots.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All the people who pass are important, both those who criticize and those who praise. I thank everyone who opened doors for me and trusted my work. My family mostly.
