Meet Andrea Pasquan | Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Pasquan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I curate a collection of fair trade items from around the globe. When you buy from Urbean, you are supporting artisans. Real humans. People who are trying to provide food on the table for their family. Many of these people have overcome life challenges such as prostitution, homelessness, or sex trafficking. Having a job gives them hope, dignity, and empowerment.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started Urbean in Charlotte, NC as an Airstream boutique and coffee bar, doing pop-up events throughout the region. The vintage Airstream, nicknamed Frances after my grandma, was also available to rent for weddings, photo shoots, parties, etc. I really thought that avenue was going to take off, but it never really did. It was used for one wedding and one city event. So I definitely learned you have to hold your business with open hands and let it evolve somewhat organically.
When a hurricane hit in 2018, a tree totaled my truck, which was my tow vehicle. At that point I was already thinking about moving to CO, so that incident was confirmation that it was time for a new season. I decided to sell the Airstream, get a Subaru, and head to Colorado Springs in January of 2019.
A few months later, I moved into a multi-vendor store, Eclectic CO, where I’ve stayed ever since! It’s a positive, friendly community of business owners that I”m grateful to be a part of.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love fly fishing at the Catamount Reservoirs up on Pikes Peak with the incredible views. We would walk around Garden of the Gods. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is really unique and fun for all ages. I would drive out east to show them the unique Painted Mines. The US Olympic Museum is a must-see attraction. We would also go to the Air Force Academy and imagine what the inside of the beautiful chapel looks like. For some evening entertainment, we’d karaoke at Dublin House or do trivia at Trail’s End Taproom.
For food and drinks, I’d take them to Mother Muff’s for any time of day. Cerberus Brewery has a pleasant outdoor setting with delicious beer and reuben rolls. Happy hour nachos at Thunder and Buttons are a must! We’d go to Shuga’s for their “crappy glass of wine” and almond cake. For a dinner, we’d grab pizza at White Pie. And then a morning brunch at Garden of the Gods Market and Cafe would also make the list.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started Urbean over 6 years ago with a crowdfunding campaign, so I’d like to give credit to all those who gave — mostly friends and family. I couldn’t have begun the business without a little capital.
