We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Wintergerst and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, what do you want people to remember about you?
Honestly? I just want people to have good memories of me. For them to remember me as someone kind, hardworking, loving, always ready to lend a hand. Someone who invested in her community and tried to make life better for everyone.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently have a day job in the Food Tourism field, but I want to move to writing and my blog full time. Which is still related to the industry in a way. I think that having both things exist in the same field gives my writing a broader perspective, especially when it comes to more in-depth topics. I’ve also been told that I have a talent for storytelling and really getting people involved, which I am quite happy about. I was recently featured in a research book, Contemporary Advances in Food Tourism Management and Marketing, which I am ridiculously proud of because it’s something I would have never imagined would happen at this point of my life.
Professionally, I’ve worked everywhere from Hilton and Disney to a dairy farm in the middle of nowhere and a family business. Having all these different experiences and that narrative flair, I like to believe it was only a matter of time until I ended up here. It wasn’t the easiest, pesky ADHD to blame, but recently I’ve been learning ways to cope with it and make it work in my favor.
The main lesson I’ve learned and applicable to every aspect of life is to never be afraid to ask for any kind of help. Whether you just need an extra hand on a project or serious help with mental health, there are good people in the world who will be there for you.
I’m extremely excited about some projects I’ve been working on, and though I don’t want to spoil anything, I will say that they’re a combination of a little bit of everything that I’m passionate about, and maybe I finally get to put my baking skills to use.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, this is my favorite part!
I’d start the week with coffee and a bite at 2914 Coffee, followed by an entire day at Convergence Station. Thankfully, they have food options inside for when we start getting hungry. After wrapping up the mind-bending adventure, I’d chill out at Raíces Brewing Co, right across the street.
Next day I’d hit up Cafe Miriam for breakfast before a walk through City Park and then the Museum of Nature and Science. Happy Hour at Bistro Vendome, followed by window shopping down Colfax to finish at Tattered Cover.
For some middle of the week excitement, I’d head over to Elitch Gardens and a quick stroll through Centennial Gardens, then dinner and a view at El Five and desserts at Little Man Ice Cream.
Other places I’d visit during the week would be Denver Botanic Gardens, Smith + Canon Ice Cream, Kokoni, Denver Art Museum, the Civic Center, Ultreia at Union Station, the Milk Market, buy some snacks at It’s a Bodega, Churreria de Madrid, Museo de las Americas and the Art District on Santa Fe, YumCha, the International Church of Cannabis, Fiction Beer Company, and of course the Buckhorn Exchange.
I could go on forever, but I think this covers my absolute favorites.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Community is so important to me because thanks to them I am where I am. That community includes my wonderful parents who have always supported me no matter how dumb or crazy my ideas are, my friends who are always cheering me on and lending a hand, and so, so many kind people who have chipped in in a number of ways. Thank you to all my extra aunts and uncles, I wouldn’t be here without you.
