Meet Mary Ruth Vincent | Glen-Isle Resort Steward

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Ruth Vincent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Glen-Isle Resort is a historic fishing and hunting lodge from the early 1900’s. Over the years it became a place where families would gather each summer to take part in the magic of Glen-Isle. I grew up coming to Glen-Isle in the 1970’s, and the memories stuck with me throughout my life. As an adult, I brought my husband and children back to the property. The years were not kind to the cabins and property. In 2016, my husband and I were well-established in education careers and were happy with our career path. We were visiting Denver in July of 2016, and decided to drive over to Bailey, Colorado to see what was going on with Glen Isle. Glen-Isle had been uninhabited since 2012, and the condition of the once majestic and beloved property was in a heart-breaking-eighteen cabins needed complete remodeling, and the historic lodge was dilapidated. Restoring Glen-Isle seemed financially impossible, and clearly would take a team of contractors years to breath life back into the property. My husband, Greg, believed it could be done, and made an offer on the property. It took a year to finalize the purchase, but on July 21, 2017 we were handed a hundred keys to Glen-Isle. Since that time, we have encountered so many more problems than we ever realized, but we have seen each cabin restored and brought back to life. The historic lodge now shines once again. My husband is a problem-solver, a dream chaser and a miracle maker. We want the world to know that tenacity and perseverance can help seemingly unattainable dreams come true.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Bailey, Colorado is a wonderful little historical town, and it has awesome business owners, and community members. If planning a week’s trip, we would have a different breakfast each day… Shaggy Sheep, Cutthroat Cafe, and The Smiling Pig. We would go visit the Treehouse Adventure Park for a few hours of climbing and swinging through the trees. Lunch could be at Mad Jacks Brewery, China Village, or Aspen Peak Cellars. We would definitely go visit Lindsey at Giggling Goat for coffee every day! If you want to have some awesome wine choices, Marcel will make sure to hook you up with his handcrafted wines. We will definitely check out Mad Jacks and Aspen Peak for some great outdoor music! Debbie at D’Beeze honey is going to help us find some great honey treats that she has made. Barb at the Knotty Pine will make us a delicious banana split, and we can shop for some t-shirts and souvenirs to take back home. Sue at Suz Cookie will be making some amazing treats that we will snack on throughout the day. We can’t miss the Sasquatch Outpost to get all our Bigfoot gear, and I will definitely take you through the museum! I hear there is an escape room coming. We will have to try out the new disc golf course at Glen-Isle, and sit on the porch of the historic lodge and watch the river. We will head over to Polita’s Place and meet Paula to buy some awesome homeopathic creations. Kris and Glenn will make sure we have all our gear for our fishing adventure at Platte River Outfitters. It will be an awesome week of meeting some of the friendliest people in Bailey, Colorado.
