We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Sams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Committing to the success of the business and taking action on a daily basis to advance personal and professional growth. It’s a simple concept, but actually putting it into practice is the part that requires discipline. Some days you are stronger and more driven than others, but the key is to keep moving forward. Whether you are sprinting, running, or walking just keep moving forward towards your goal. Don’t stop. A good early goal is to do at least one thing every day that moves you closer to your goal. Sometimes that thing is self-care or a personal day, but you have to look at even personal care as a part of the big picture of what you are trying to accomplish. When you are a small business, the health of the business is a direct reflection of your health and that of your team.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Alpine Building Performance, LLC is a modern home inspection business serving the greater Denver-Metro area. The business combines our love for both homes and people with a mission of ensuring the health, safety, and comfort of homeowners and building occupants. Homes play such a critical role in our lives and yet they are so often poorly understood and underutilized. Our team is committed to working with home buyers and the real estate community to create education and comfort around the home inspection process. We want every client to feel informed and empowered going into their journey of homeownership. Over the past 4 years, the intense passion for our work has led to us becoming one of the premier inspection companies in the area. We are dedicated to constant improvement and excited to build on our already stellar reputation with innovation, dedication, and creative thinking.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Assuming that we are in non-COVID times, I would have a pretty well-rounded itinerary put together. There are so many great neighborhoods throughout Denver that each has its own character and charm. Food-wise, RINO and the Highlands/LoHi would be high on the list. Architecturally, the treelined streets of Cap Hill east through Congress park is one of my favorites. Recreationally, I would have to say the mountains west of Denver. It’s not Denver, but the close and convenient access to the Rocky Mountains is one of the amazing features of this city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s an abundant list of people, books, and experiences that have contributed to my success with the business. If I am to pick one, I credit my fiancee for her support, understanding, and most of all the sacrifices made throughout the past and present demands that the business has on my time and energy. Being a business owner is not only hard on you, but your loved ones and friends.
