We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Peters (threeway Pattycake) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is the support that I have given and received throughout my life when it comes to my art. Showing up for my peers and aspiring artists, regardless of their medium, has always been second nature to me. Never did I think about the possibility of it allowing me to be a part of something bigger until my dear friend Lala allowed me to show at her and her father Santi’s gallery called D3 Arts in Westwood. So most of all I just want to say thank you to her and my community for seeing the world through my eyes and believing in me. The sense of belonging it has instilled in me is indescribable and motivates me to make art as a career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I mostly construct pieces based on abstract portraiture. Once I began exploring art as a child in third grade, I was selected for a still life charcoal drawing of a cattle skull to be entered into the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. This was my first memory of feeling as if I finally belonged to a community of people who didnt judge me and were excited to hear my interpretation of the world. So, I encourage people to tell others when they inspire you or you enjoy what they create no matter what it is, because it could make them take that step that sets them on a path to pursuing their dreams. I have learned countless lessons along the way, but the most important is to always speak up. There is power in your voice. If you or anyone in Denver or surrounding cities are interested in commissions or have any questions, please email theartistsperspectives@gmail.com.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To show my friend the absolute best time when in Denver, I’d take them to my favorite restaurant Matsuhisa in Cherry Creek. It’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Check it out! After we digest that we would go to Bounce Empire topped off by a special set by Lita Lotus and or anyone part of the Deep Dark and Dangerous collective at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom. If i was in town for a week, I would suggest the Broadmoor in Manitou Springs to enjoy the incline and then for some much needed relaxation, a stay in Glenwood Springs at their famous Hot Springs and the the Adventure Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success with my art career has been directly attributed to the expansion and inclusion of the community at D3 Arts in my hometown of Westwood. Lala (Huitziloxochitl) and her father Santiago have created a space that is welcoming to all and allows for local talent to spread their wings whether it be local metal bands, drag shows, skating, and even NA/AA meetings. I am, once again, very proud to be a part of this collective. I also want to thank this magazine, Voyage Denver, for allowing me to be in this edition.
