We had the good fortune of connecting with Cass Braido and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cass, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Well, I realized pretty soon after high school that I just liked to make stuff. It wasn’t specifically music, or film necessarily. The process of coming up with an idea and seeing it through was really rewarding, whether it’s my own or something someone else is working on. So pursuing the arts and trying to be around similarly minded people was an obvious choice for sure.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think every project I work on I try and be as authentic as I can. I understand every artist will tell you that, but it’s truly the most important thing. I find it easier to be honest through my art than it is sometimes in daily conversations. I’m not sure why that is.

It’s funny because when you’re acting in a film your job is to be someone else. Which I think we all do more than we realize. However, the only way to give a real and convincing performance is to pull from yourself and your own life experience. The character lives through you and everything you’ve seen. Which is a lot different from writing songs. It comes from you and you’re gonna go get up on stage and sing it for a bunch of people as loud as you can. You’re singing your own truth. The only way to do that well is to be as vulnerable and authentic as you can.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Man…so I like a dive bar. There’s this place on Broadway called Dive Inn. It’s nautical themed, drinks are cheap and it has a speed boat in the middle you can sit in. So that’s for sure on the list. Food wise I’m a big fan of a place called Smokin Fins in Downtown Littleton or if we wanna go a little more casual Big Bill’s NY Pizza in Centennial. Honestly, I’d take them to go hangout on South Broadway too. There’s a little bit of everything. Maybe catch a show at HQ? Big HQ fan.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my mom. She’s never batted an eye anytime I’ve told her what my next project or career move is gonna be. She was the first person I called when I decided to drop out of film school (Not a mothers favorite phone call I’m sure), but she just said “Okay, well. Go make something then.” Same with the band. She’s been through so much in this life and for her to remain as kind, caring and thoughtful as she is absolutely inspires me regularly.
