We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Jensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anne, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t set out to have a creative career. All I knew for sure was that I wanted to be a mom, and it was fun to have something on the side so I went through several businesses as a young mom.

When my third child and first daughter was born, everything changed.

I remember looking online and seeing the most beautiful photos of babies in these cute poses. And I wanted to create that myself.

So I brought her big brothers into the living room and bribed them to let me take their pictures. I used my little canon point and shoot that my dad had given me for Christmas some years back. I posed the kids and did my best to take photos the way I’d seen online.

And I was so frustrated that they didn’t look anything like the photos I’d seen! They were really terrible.

So I did some research and bought my first dslr and prime lens. And I started photographing EVERYTHING.

I learned and practiced, and learned and practiced some more. And then I started photographing others- mostly friends in the beginning. And that’s when the ball got rolling and never stopped.

I like to say that it feeds my creative soul. It fills a part of me I never knew was there!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As I look back over my photography journey over the past 12 years, I am really proud of how far I’ve come. I went from a newbie with a nice camera, not knowing anything about it, to now having a successful business. I am most proud that I have found confidence in myself as a photographer and a business woman, and even more confidence as a mom.

It hasn’t been easy at all, I’ve poured so many hours and dollars into this business. I can be really hard on myself, always wanting to be better. But I can say without a doubt that it has been worth it.

I’ve learned that it’s ok to be good at some things, and let others be good at the other things. I used to feel like I had to master all types of photography. But I would go crazy trying to do that, so I just learned to be the best at what I’m good at and what I enjoy doing.

Which for me is family photography and video. I love working on location in the beautiful Colorado scenery. I love working with moms and their amazing families to capture sweet memories each year. I love being able to catch those little details and moments that might otherwise be missed. With five kids myself, I really know how fast they grow. It’s so important to have those photos and videos.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Not sure how exciting it is, but I would just take them to the family spots we like to go to.

We love the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the Pioneer Museum, or any of the gorgeous hikes around the Springs. My kids also love to go to the Summit and bowl or play laser tag. Ok, I like laser tag too.

For a night out, we would leave the kids home and go catch a movie at Roadhouse Cinemas or splurge a little and go to Carlos Bistro for a fancy dinner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to credit my dad, Mark Seward, with a lot of my success. He is a man of many talents, photography included. And I relied on him so much in the beginning of my photography journey.

I borrowed gear from him, asked for feedback on my photos and business ideas. He was an invaluable resource and supporter. And I like to think that I’m a little bit like him in the best ways.
