Meet Anny Mendes | Tailor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anny Mendes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anny, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
First of all, hard work. I always focus on my work. It is my passion, therefore I let it consume me. My thoughts and actions are always work related. So I work all the time and I enjoy working. It is also important to set high standards. The work you do needs to be professional and of high quality. Consistently do the best work you can. This includes constant learning and perfecting your craft.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to creativity I found that being yourself is important. My creative skills aren’t the best, but I’ve learned a lot along the way. I started making traditional Chinese dresses which limited my creative horizon, there’s only so much to do before it’s not traditional. With a little trial and error, I just followed my heart and did what I liked. Soon I found people that liked what I did and I was able to win at a big city fashion show. It really came down to doing what I was comfortable with. I just put my twist into my style!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s a couple of Chinese restaurants I would definitely go to, Golden Shanghai and Super Star are two of my favorites. The Denver Botanical Gardens is also a beautiful place to go. And we would have to take a trip to the mountains. The small mountain towns are fun to visit and go shopping in their unique shops looking at antiques, crystals, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I had a great mentor in China. She took me in and allowed me to live with her and work for her everyday in exchangeforherteachings. Her skills and knowledge were top notch, that’s why I chose to learn from her, I knew it would be worth the sacrifice. Support from my family has been important as well.
