We had the good fortune of connecting with April Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
The phrase, “to give up,” has such a negative connotation to it. Society makes us believe that when we give up, we are weak. But it is okay (and sometimes even necessary) to give up on the things/people that no longer serve us. Even if you have invested a lot of time and energy into something, it’s okay to give up…. or better yet move on…. if it doesn’t make you happy or keeps you from reaching your full potential. All that matters is that you never give up on yourself, your dreams & what makes you truly happy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the Photographer and Owner of Purely Perspective Photography. I specialize in weddings, elopements, couples, families, high school seniors, and branding photography. I have a lifestyle approach to my photography style… I love the moments in between poses, as this is when I capture the best photos! I started Purely Perspective in 2017, after I fell in love with photography through snapping pictures of my travels, family & friends. When I started the business, I never imagined that it could be a full time career. But each month, I became more and more busy with clients!! It was to the point where I was struggling to balance my full time job, my photography business and home life. That is when I had to make the decision to go full time. It is very scary to become 100% self employed… but I could never go back. It is such a blessing to get to wake up and work on what I am passionate about!! I love being able to travel to these beautiful locations and capture photos of some pretty cool families & couples. It is really a dream come true.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Best week ever in Denver would of course include hikes… the manitou springs incline, or boulder flat irons. Lot’s of foodie stops… my favorite are; Uncle for the best Ramen you’ve ever had… or One Fold for a farm to table breakfast spot. A photoshoot in RiNo (of course!!). And, my favorite thing to do in the summer… attend a concert at Red Rocks!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho is truly a life changing book that lit a fire in me after reading it. This book inspired me to unapologetically chase after all of the things I love and to dream big dreams. After reading this book, I take more time to enjoy where I am currently at in my life, as well as thinking ahead to the next move.
