We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Montoya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m currently a Travel RN & after some health scares and the demand of nursing I decided to pick up an old hobby I started years ago. I wanted to be a photographer before I was accepted into nursing school. Now a decade later & some major changes in my life the timing was right.
I wanted to express the small moments in life, to focus on creating & capturing what everyday life is. I’m re discovering what niche of photography I want to dive into , but for now it’s whatever inspires me. Whether that’s through DSLR or drone photography – I’m having a great time figuring it out.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m currently still learning the craft. There’s so much to learn about every part of photography. What I love to do is use DSLR as well as my drone. To me – I want to be able to capture the in between moments. There is something special to snapping that photo of that special moment with a family member. Or reflecting a moment that someone was having but shows their true smile or emotions. I also want to create a feeling in my audience when I get the landscape photo just right. Or capture the sunset shot that lights the soul. To me photography is more than just remembering a time & place – it’s a feeling. And that feeling is special to the audience.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What’s beautiful about Souther Colorado & the area I live in (Weston) is that you could go to the exact same place everyday but see something new and exciting. To the locals who are at Ringos in Segunda. To the folks that walk the streets to downtown Trinidad that admire the old brick buildings. So many place elicit the feeling of time & beauty. I enjoy going fishing in North Lake with my dad, going on a date to Bella Lunas in Trinidad. Or taking my brother to Ringos for a Dr Pepper & ice cream. Not to mention the beauty that I share with my family in our small area.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has been a supporter through all my endeavors. He’s followed me with my romantic idea / dream to live in Alaska to beginning a hobby farm & photography in southern Colorado. He’s truly supported me through everything.
