We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Vanley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, do you have a budget?
When starting my business I’m proud to say I never went into debt. I slowly paid for equipment as I booked jobs. My husband and I personally save and live below what we make. We have no car payments and we are completely debt free. It is nice to have a good savings and not having to worry about money. We love Dave Ramsey and recommend listening to him for anyone who is trying to be financially free!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started photographing people and charging for senior sessions when I was fifteen years old. My career choice has been a long time coming and a joy in my life. It has taken a lot of trial and error and dedication to fight for what I am passionate about and continue doing what I love everyday! It was not easy but at times I just think about how blessed I am that I get to do my dream job. I’ve learned that when you don’t work hard for what you have it isn’t as special or precious to you at the end of the day. When you work hard for what you feel like your meant to do in life there’s a special peace and accomplishment that you get to have and no one can take that away from you. I want others to feel encouraged by my story and know that whatever age you start you can do what you were meant to do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in Colorado Springs and there’s always special places that I have memories at. I would show off the Air Force Academy because I’m proud to be from that area and proud of those who serve our country. My home church was New Life Church, it was also the place my husband Aaron and I got married. Some places I love photographing would be Manitou Springs, Garden of Gods, Red Rocks, and anywhere with a view of the beautiful mountains! Outside of Colorado Springs one of my favorite places to visit is Telluride!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person that has been my biggest support over these last 11 years of my business is for sure my husband Aaron. He has always been there to keep my business as a priority because he knows how passionate I am about it! He is also my buyer, researcher, and support system for all my equipment and business needs! I don’t know what I would do without him! He’s the best!
