Meet Aspen The Fairy | Children’s Performer & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aspen The Fairy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aspen, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I always wanted to be a fairy and fly away, high above the world and away from the troubles below. When I was a kid, I just had this desire to create and make ideas come to life, I took that on quite literally when bringing Aspen the Fairy to the real world. Taking lots of inspiration from things I loved growing up and maybe I watched too much Tinkerbell and Barbie movies.
Summer 2009 was my first year that I attended the Colorado Renaissance Festival where I saw all this elaborate costumes. There, I met Twig the Fairy who planted the seeds of inspiration and imagination for me. Unfortunately, Aspen wasn’t formed just from good things in my life. In December 2010, I lost a friend to suicide and as a teenager that really took a toll on me mentally. It it hurt a lot for me and I felt kind of ignored and unseen. So I buried my nose and creating flower crowns, fairy dresses and just immersed myself into a world that was better than my current reality.
A few years go by and I find I wanted to get more involved in the local Colorado communities I love.
I started just spreading my wings and doing public events as a street performer. Later, adding kids parties, corporate and private events. Traveling to events in Downtown Denver to all over the foothills and now my wonderings have landed me in the small town of Steamboat Springs.
Ultimately, I wanted to share joy and kindness. I want people to know that they are seen and acknowledged no matter what they’re going through. No one is alone and that’s what Aspen the Fairy stands for.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the hardest thing was really getting over what people think of you. It’s hard to strap on wings and walk out onto public street. People sometimes give you Weird looks but at the end of the day if you create a little joy and inspire one person, I think that’s a win.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite places to go is red rocks amphitheater. I love being surrounded by these massive rocks and being able to see as far as I can. “This sky is the limit” and “the world is our oyster” as they say. I think being out in nature gives such a sense of grounding of who we are and hope for the future
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has been my biggest support. Even though they will occasionally find glitter everywhere they have lived with it. My mom especially is my biggest support, even though she has A lot going on.
And the midst of 2020, she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and despite having that she she’s still there for me. She’s really taught me how to be selfless and strong no matter what life throws at you. I love my family and I thank God for them every day.
