We had the good fortune of connecting with Aubree Farmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aubree, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At first when the thought of buying my own business at the age of 18, I thought “ your crazy Aubree” But I wanted to create something bigger for my little community, I wanted to be apart of something that could be larger. I also wanted to prove a lot of people wrong about what I was able to accomplish.
The risk of buying a business is a HUGE one. But in my case the benefits outweighed, and so I jumped in with two feet.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Professionally I got here with the help of my parents. And the decision to buy this cute little coffee truck that I had worked at for the past few years, was one I didn’t make on my own. And to say it was terrifying was an understatement. I am 18 and when most of my friend are worrying about finishing a paper by mid-night I am worrying about how I am going to be paying payroll. The challenge I think was the biggest was trying to learn everything about a small business while working your small business. I have learned that I am capable of a lot more than I let myself think. I can do more than I think. I want the world to know that just because I am young doesn’t mean my dreams are limited. My brand, my business, I have put everything into. I want them to know that I don’t plan on staying in this little trailer, that the name coffee merchant will be seen. And that yet again I am capable of so much.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In small town Bayfield, there is so much to see. I would take my friend to go see the town of durango and the rich culture and history that is there. To ride on the durango silverton railroad. Take the to my favorite restaurant, fired up pizza or zia taqueria. I would take them for the most beautiful ride to Vallcito lake. Then for dinner go to Bottim Shelf Brewery where you’ll see so many locals eating delicious food. I would go for the 45min drive to pagosa springs to go soak in the hot springs, and enjoy the cute little town there. And go hike in the mountains with breathtaking views.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, Ryan and Deanna Farmer, I have to give them most of the credit. They support my every move, they bring me up when I feel defeated and they take me down a couple notches when I get to up there… They are the reason I am able to do what I do. They bring confidence in me that I would be able to find myself, they are helping me make my dream a reality.
